Serieal # FS811974USA. The top looks like Rosewood. Maple or Beech body?
Thanks in advance

Here is a near-neighbor to that one, also marked FS, which denoted "Factory Second" for some reason. Interesting that they were grouped together this close.

I believe this could also be a purpleheart top. Curious what Mica turns up on that core... it's kinda' light to be mahogany. Beech? Birch?

Strangely the ONLY thing in the file is a note that says "it's Vermilion" and the file tab says "FS811974 LSB2nd"

in 2019, Gruhn Guitars bough some replacement parts for this bass:
-bridge
-tailpiece
-sustain block

Mary filled in some of the details then since the original record was, ahem, scant.

top: Vermilion
neck: Maple and Purpleheart
scale: 34" long
fingerboard: Ebony
inlays: Mother of pearl
controls: Series I

fingerboard dimensions were confirmed to be the classic taper, 1.75 x 2.25, since we were making new hardware for it.

There is nothing indicating what made this bass a factory second.
