Alembic made this awesome (to put it mildly) bass as a near-exact replica of the medium-scale 6-string made for Phil Lesh in 2014. This may sound like hyperbole, but it’s not -- even judging by Alembic standards, this is the most beautiful – look, feel, and sound – instrument I have ever seen, held, or played. The top and back laminates (and continuous back plates) are Coco Bolo rosewood. The body core is mahogany with maple and purple heart accent woods. The 13-piece satin neck (OMG!) is a work of art in and of itself, featuring mahogany, maple, walnut, purple heart, and ebony (same for truss rod cover), with graphite rods and side LEDs in red and blue. The hardware is chrome-plated brass. The bird tailpiece is compound chrome/ebony. Knobby peg head with inlaid MOP logo. Fretboard inlays are abalone ovals with silver surrounded.
The bass was set up for Phil’s distinctive string selection - .40 .55 .70 .85 .100 .115 – which doesn’t really do it for me (or most players -- Phil plays with a flat pick and has a very soft touch). I restrung the bass and had it set up (including widening two slots in the nut) for Elixir “Nanoweb” (.30-.130).
The bass is dead mint – 100% collector’s grade. Not a scuff, scratch, ding, or dent on it. Original case included, of course. Alembic’s original custom quote for this instrument was over $31k and it had a “street price” of around $25k (old prices). I am asking $19,500 net to me. I would consider Alembic (plus cash, as appropriate) trades – 5 or 6 string, must be mint or close to it. Would meet in NYmetropolitan area (I am on Long Island) or you pay actual insured shipping.
Thanks.

I'm going to have to start my gofundme account! That would be the Alembic I'd want these days.
-
Could it be that the build sheet is missing what appears to be an Ebony neck laminate? If I didn't have one not too dissimilar, I would be sorely tempted.
-
Yes, there is an Ebony neck laminate in this bass and we should have written it in that blank space on the wood card. Ooops!
-
That's the kind of body style and headstock I'd want if I was going for a 6 string alembic. Such a beautiful Bass
-
Such a cool bass.
I really like that picture of Phil and Jack together there, with I suppose the twin to it, Khaleesi. I'm curious if she and Viserion here are sequentially numbered? (there goes the numbers thing again...)
-
Hopefully someone from the club has the cash for this one. It’s way too beautiful to go to someone who doesn’t fully appreciate Alembics. Jimmy...you could probably pay this off with a few extra studio sessions.

I looked up the original pictures of this bass, and it looks like there are a couple of errors on the wood card. The strings were definitely regular 45-128 Alembic CX-3 strings when we finished the bass. I thought we did it with normal gauges so no worries about the hardware slotting - it's made for the standard gauges. I was pretty sure that no matter how big of a Lesh fan one might be, those gauges are totally WHACK! Maybe the original owner changed it to the Phil special gauges as an experiment? And yes, it clearly DOES have an Ebony neck laminate.
This wasn't made at the same time as Phil's Khaleesi, so the serial numbers are good ways apart. We've got a few replica builds going for our showroom.

I'm very excited to add this bass to my Alembic family: a 5 string Epic fretless and the birds eye maple omega 5 string Series 1 I purchased here ~18 months ago!
This new to me bass is going to be played hard and often as all Alembics should and not flipped!!!
Watching the shipping tracking progress like a hawk!

Yes indeed, congrats! Came fairly close to this one myself.....
-
I would be curious what the nut width and spacing is, this seems much wider than my son’s Europa 6.
-
Here you go!

Thank you hdfixer, how considerate of you to take the time for such a perfect response so quickly. This looks like a joy to play.
