Title: R.I.P. Jerry Jeff “Mr. Bojangles”...
Post by: lbpesq on October 24, 2020, 10:11:46 AM
I HATE 2020!   We’ve lost another of my favorites.  Now Jerry Jeff Walker has passed away.

The original Cosmic Cowboy.

May the Four Winds Blow You Safely Home

My good friend and musical mentor Steve Keith toured with him for a while, and shared many fond stories. I better call him.  :-[

Dr. Snowflake.

Jacky Jack Doubletrouble.

An immense talent and a legendary crazy; I fear we shan't see the like of him again.  Farewell, Jerry.

Ouch. Ouch. Ouch. I loved that guy. Chances were taken, because I listened to JJW.

Something went wrong with my post - both appearing together.  Will try again.

I always preferred Nitty Gritty Dirt Band's take on it:
But of course, my favorite is Mr. Walker his own self:

I especially like this version by David Bromberg where he goes into a rap in the middle talking about his days playing guitar for Jerry Jeff and how Jerry Jeff came to be in the jail cell where he met Bojangles.

I liked that one, too - and somewhere I've seen one of JJW telling the story.

Finally heard back from my buddy Steve yesterday... he's in Canada this time of year. He was telling me his time with Jerry Jeff Walker was 1976-77, playing mostly fiddle, but a couple of other instruments too. Said it was the time of his life working the road with that bunch.
