Interesting, but does a third PU really justify putting the price of a non thru-neck Alembic into Series I range of pricing.
-
It appears to be the same seller who used to trade as SGW Audio.

I can tell you that a 3rd pickup makes a world of difference on an Alembic bass. I have a custom 10 string with 2 fanboys and an axe. The axe has its own vol and tone. The fanboys has a Europa circuit . I believe Trip has one equipped with 3 pups as well.

Not interested, but curious... could a 3-pickup configuration be set up for a pan function rather than this way? I seem to remember a thread... maybe it was an Excel bass somebody did this to, or wanted to. ::) (it was over my head at the time...)

You may be thinking of Dave Houck's Essence, which had a middle pickup added.

I've played Dave's Essence with the added 3rd pickup, but I seem to recall it had a toggle switch to select which set were in sequence.
Flip's Custom Elan, "Blackened" is probably what I'm thinking about... that was some fairly complicated switching and panning. Either his, or one of Rami's basses maybe... I just can't remember. :P
Theoretically though... could it be done? A pan sweep between three pickups?

“Theoretically though... could it be done? A pan sweep between three pickups?”
Now that would be cool!
With a master volume, and filters and Qs for each pickup :)

I would imagine it would be possible if you were just blending the middle pickup with one of the outer pickups as you operate the blend. But having a system where you could say, have the neck pickup only on full and as you move the blend knob towards the bridge, the neck pickup level fades down gradually and both the middle and bridge enter the signal in some kind of proportion relative to the knob position so in effect all three are on all the time but in various proportions over the sweep. And switching system to switch in each type. My mind boggles with the kind of options you could have if it could be done.
