Title: Great Gig Bag Deal on Today’s Stupid Deal of the Day 9-22-20
Post by: lbpesq on September 22, 2020, 10:16:25 AM
Today’s Musician’s Friend Stupid Deal of the Day is an excellent Road Runner Highway Premium gig bag for only $50 with free shipping!   It looks comparable to the Reunion Blues and Mono gig bags that go for quite a bit more.  I just pulled the trigger on one.

I noticed it was the Stupid Deal yesterday, too.
I, however, did not pull the trigger, because...well, I've expressed my thoughts on gig bags on numerous occasions before.

I generally agree, but there are gig bags, and then there are gig bags!  Some modern bags are more accurately described as hybrids, with hard or semi-hard sides.  I have a no-longer-in-production Body Glove hard-sided bass gig bag that I use for my ‘77 Series I Long Scale 12 string.   It’s a heckuva lot easier to haul around than the huge original HSC.   I picked up a guitar that came in a Fender branded Reunion Blues gig bag.  You know, the one they throw off the building roof?  It’s actually quite protective.

And it’s not like I’m going to fly with anything but a solid HSC (except, of course, my Voyage Air acoustic with the folding neck).   But if I’m going across town for a jam, I’m not hauling a bunch of equipment along with it, and the guitar will be in my hands the entire time, a nice relatively protective gig bag is a totally acceptable convenience.  At least IMHO.

The Roadrunner case, (yes, it’s really more of a case than a bag), arrived today.  Wow, this thing is sweet!  My first reaction upon picking it up is that it’s fairly heavy for a gig bag.   That’s because it is solidly constructed and seems to be very protective.   It’s definitely comparable to the Reunion Blues bag which costs 4x what I paid for this!  Joe Bob says two big thumbs up!
