Diana Rigg, a.k.a. “Emma Peel”, has passed away. Jeannie may do it for Gregory, but my adolescent hormones would gleefully jump up and down at the sight of John Steed’s partner cavorting in her leather cat suit.

Not only a spectacular babe, but an incredible talent; along with, as Bill says, the delectable Emma Peel in The Avengers, also Tracy in On Her Majesty's Secret Service, Regan in King Lear, Olenna Tyrell in Game Of Thrones - her artistic range was as amazing as her yumminess!
A sad day, indeed, for fans of both fine acting and nicely filled leather cat suits.

We watched this at the time, in glorious B and W. For some reason, the ITV shows from England that we got to see here in the US were always hipper and edgier than the American shows, and the Avengers was right at the top. Unfortunately after Emma left, the show sort of tanked.

It's funny, the things that stay with us, and the reasons why they do. Mom says Jeannie was a perfect babysitter, that I would sit in rapt fascination and watch Screen Gems' IDOJ as she house-worked or tended to my brother/sisters. She was real to me, and part of that just never went away. I finally met her in Nashville (Barbara) and separating herself from the character was my question. Of course I had to explain why... ::) The autographed picture from that day is on a shelf in my practice room, with a Christmas 1964 Beam's Choice decanter. I leave it uncorked, so Jeannie can come and go as she pleases. What?! ???
Barbara Eden's is the only Facebook page I look at, ever. It's just a publicly viewable fan page. Most of Barbara's posts for the last year or two have been eulogizing a friend who has passed. It's a little bit sad but at 89, she has just about outlived them all. Just a couple weeks ago, it was her co-star Lori Nelson from "Who Wants To Marry A Millionaire?". I would be the slightest bit surprised if she knew Diana Rigg as well. I'd be more surprised if she didn't.
Time to sound like an old guy... TV just ain't what it used to be. :-[

Totally with Bill - she was my hearthrob as Emma Peel. I remember trying to take a photo of her on a black and white TV in the Avengers when I was a teenager but it just came out as a blank screen - maybe something technical to do with the lines - were they 405? And wasn't it a Lotus Elan she drove?
