Title: What is happening to fees for live music Post Covid
Post by: jazzyvee on August 18, 2020, 01:00:44 AM

I have started to see a small number of gigs starting to be listed in my city and it does make me curious as to what venues are willing to pay for live music in an environment where the numbers of punters are being restricted due to social distancing constraints and hence revenue is down. I'm not suggesting you reveal what you charge, I'm just interested if any of you who have started gigging are noticing a drop or have your bands made a decision to reduce your usual charge to get gigs.

Personally all my gigs have been wiped from my diary for this year even though we have been offered an on-line live gig but no date fixed yet or fee negotiated.

Judging from the news of resurgence, I'd be surprised if there'll be  'post-covid' before 2022.

edit..   we've started rehearsals again but we've aren't expecting to gig anytime soon

We're playing next Friday for half of what we used to get. The venue is short on funds due to no business for 5 months and can't pay what they used to (according to them.) I can understand things being tight though. I saw another band that used to be 5 pieces is now 3 pieces playing tonight at the same venue. I wanted to check it out the lighting, etc since it will be outdoors.

The crowd was scattered (social distanced) and a fair amount of people in attendance. Masks are mandatory unless you're sitting at your table.

Likewise-all my gigs cancelled so far.  Was due to have an outdoor gig (well Marquee) next Sunday near Kettering (UK) but heard nothing to say it is on.  It is not a safe area.  All a bit bleak at the moment - just hopping my Xmas Eve and New Years Eve gigs are still on as good money - fingers crossed as 4 months away.

Ask again in a couple years, when we will (I hope) actually be _"post-COVID"...........

the guy who fixed my sprinkler system noticed my basses in my living room and we struck up a conversation.  turns out he plays bass in a motorhead tribute band (that's when i noticed the muttonchop sideburns and fake mole 🙄) and he says he's still playing out every weekend. i don't remember where he said they were playing, but i get the feeling it was where social distancing and masks were optional, if ya catch my drift.

Yeah I was just being (partly) a wise-ass.

HGB has 3 gigs still on the books left to play in 2020, (for a grand total of 4 this year...  ::) ) but to Jazzy's point - the money hasn't changed. We're still charging and getting paid the same as ever. Of course, we're just weekend warriors with a loyal regional following. For what that info is worth.
