Title: My Second Bass Build
Post by: lbpesq on March 21, 2020, 03:34:59 PM
I've used my increased time at home to complete the second 420 Bass.

-Black Korina (Limba) body
-Hand-rubbed Tung Oil finish
-Purpleheart fingerboard
-3A Flame Maple neck with satin poly finish
-Alembic P-Bass pickup set with Volume, Filter, and 3-Way Q Switch
-Babicz Full Contact Bridge
-Grover Tuning Machines
-Neck Attached With Inserts/Machine Screws
-Glow-In-The-Dark Side Markers

Bill, tgo

Wow Bill! Looks great! I like the body, looks almost neck-through - sneaky!

Nicely done. I bet that purpleheart board makes for an interesting tone.

Bill, do you notice a feel or tone difference with the neck connection
using the inserts and screws?

Not sure as I can’t compare it to itself with wood screws.  But the machine screws and inserts should allow for more torque and removal of the neck without stripping.

I really like the machine screw and  insert concept for such a bolt on neck application .

I had a new neck fitted to a strat I built back in the 1980s and got one of these machine screw neck fixing kits off ebay and it's really a tight and solid fix.

One can find machine screws and inserts in bulk FAR less expensive that the eBay set.

Agreed, mine came in a strat neck fixing kit with backplate and some widget for adjusting the neck angle which was much cheaper than the price on the link. That was just a reference.
