Title: Buckeye/Resin topped bass- our first one!
Post by: mica on February 12, 2020, 11:16:45 PM
I've been a little busy lately with the move and all, but I've been meaning to share a snapshot of this custom Buckeye Burl / Resin top bass.

Beautiful. Buckeye and spalted usually aren't my thing, but this looks cool. Is that a balance K with a modified lower horn?

Yes! Keen eye. This is a custom variant, "Balance B"

It's at home with its new owner in Texas.

So the resin fills the voids in the wood?

It is indeed an attractive body shape and I am always a sucker for a Heart Omega.

Paul (actually any Omega cut makes me giddy)

Incredibly beautiful. Can the resin technique be used with quilt maple?

Wow Steve wouldn’t that be amazing with 5A quilted maple. Would you get one of yours refinished?

Subtle and very pretty.
Did you find that the extra density or changed elasticity of the body made any difference in the tone?
(assuming that the resin added density or changed elasticity)

Simply Gorgeous!

Can I send mine in for a refinish and get this done?

Don't think the vacuum chambers can handle a whole bass!

Well, it makes Buckeye Burl sound a bit brighter.

Can the resin technique be used with quilt maple?

I haven't seen it, but I will ask my supplier about it. Mostly I see it on burl and heavily voided woods.

That's sweet!

There's a burl-&-resin Further in this month's ad in Vintage Guitar magazine (p. 29); if Ed McMahon should come knocking today, I'll fer shur be looking into it..................(oh, wait; darn, you, Ed!)

I've been informed this technique does not work on Quilted Maple - sorry Steve!

That is a sweet ride!  I like that Modified Balance B, gives it some heftiness or something.  Nice Work!
