Just got a nordymute for my 77 custom. Instant 60's thud, esp with the flats I have on it. There's not enough room between the pickup and the bridge on mine for the normal hunk of foam under the strings and I never liked taping foam or felt over the top (even though that's clearly worked for Carol Kaye). So far, I'm pretty impressed although i'm less impressed with my dusting ability. Time to get out the q-tips.
Any of you mute with things like this?

Interesting looking gizmo. I have a little block of foam I have used, but only when using a pick. Works pretty good but takes a minute to install it. This would solve that.
Is the '18' for string spacing?
(lotsa' LOVE for that '76 Custom, however dusty...) ;D

I sometimes use some pieces of weather stripping stuck together. But it’s tricky to get the right amount of foam.
The device in your picture looks like it might over-mute the strings.

Doesn't seem to overmute, and there's less pressure on the string if you pull it out slightly. I'll have to see how it adapts to the strings and how I adapt to the mute.
The 18 is string spacing. Might not be the perfect spacing for this bass, but it's definitely close enough.

Looks like a neat item, thanks for the tip Mark. ;) I looked them up online to see, and there is a 5-string model available too.

I generally use the side of my hand when picking. Works well.
