Title: Chopped up Exploiter on eBay
Post by: gearhed289 on January 29, 2020, 02:54:37 PM
View at your own risk! At least it looks like they did a good job, but ouch! Not sure what's up with the bridge.

Blasphemy!

The out of focus pics makes it less painful.  I understand that there could be medical reasons for an owner to lightweight a beloved instrument; how about a cutout on the rear bout with nicely radiused corners?  Instrument would still fit in the case proper and allow for airflow under the arm pit!

I've got an Entwistle-style FenderBird that I put together several years ago that's pretty heavy with its 1-3/4'' thick slab body. I've thought about routing out a portion of the body under the large pickguard, but it sounds great and I'm afraid it might change the tone. It does balance perfectly though, so I've left it alone.

Looks like they were going for that Clapton Explorer look...

Speaking as an Exploiter owner, I'd say with some certainty that the balance of the 'reduced weight' version on eBay has been ruined. The aircraft carrier sized body of an Exploiter balances perfectly on a strap.

Too bad the owner didn't simply sell the victim and purchase something lighter.

LOL! I often refer to my FenderBird as an aircraft carrier.

Yes, they could have purchased something more conventional.  :-\

Well, it sounded like it was on some cool tours and if it had the sound and needed to be modded to make it playable, well, sometimes that's what you have to do. I wouldn't mind trying it out. I like the idea of the 32" scale. But, for all the mods, I think the price is a bit high.
