FS: “Alembicized” Fender Precision Bass “Lyte” MIJ with Alembic Activator Pickups/Electronics
This is a great, super-cool bass. My goal was to create a bass that sounds as good as my Alembics but that was lighter and not as “delicate” (meaning I wouldn’t lose sleep over playing it out). I liked it so much, that I proceeded to “Alembicize” two other basses. Between those and my Alembics, this one is just not getting played.
I started with a rare MIJ Fender Precision Bass Lyte, a discontinued model that was the precursor to the Zone bass. It is a light, full-scale (34”) bass with a super-fast slim Jazz Bass type neck profile. The transparent gloss red finish shows off amazing wood grain, which I believe is maple. I believe the neck is basswood. It has a really unique feel – smooth and fast.
I had the frets polished and replaced all the hardware, adding a new gold Hipshot KickAss high-mass bridge, new gold Gotoh tuners, new gold input jack plate, new gold heel neck plate, and a gold Schaller S-Lock strap-lock system. I then converted this passive bass to active, replacing the stock pickups with brand new Alembic Activators and Alembic preamp, with volume-pan-bass-treble controls and new Alembic collet control knobs. The work was done by a professional guitar tech.
It is good to go and sounds and plays amazing! The bass has some small dings, scuffs, and scratches - it is a player’s bass - but they don’t detract from its beauty. From a foot away the bass looks brand new, as I think the photos reflect.
Comes with original molded plastic hard shell case.
I would love to find this bass a good home and will take a loss to do so. I have this listed on Reverb for $1,695, but would take less from this group. Make me an offer. Thanks.
Eric.

These were great basses, sourced from Fender Japan; about the most compact long-scale bass I can think of, and they were pretty good in stock form. For someone of a, shall we say, smaller stature, this thing supercharged with all Alembic internals under the hood would be just the ticket, a full long-scale axe for people who physically prefer a short-scale instrument. Killer mods.
