I’d love to hear that Monk tape

Wow that's a great article! I'd love to hear the recordings of so many of the artists listed.
Listening to bit one there reminded me of seeing NRPS and them playing for almost 8 hours. So much fun and a great show.

Me, too. Shame it is MIA... They definitely have an amazing archive of recordings.

I just ordered the Doc and Merle box, really looking forward to hearing that!

The Doc & Merle set is fantastic... trust me. ;)

Very nice article; thanks!

I have the Jorma & Jack set. It’s raucous and very good.

Received our copy of "Dawn of the New Riders of the Purple Sage" this weekend. As to be expected with Bear's recordings the sound is great. So far we have only listened to the first show featured, 8/1/69 which was one of the first gigs and billed as Jerry Garcia and Marmaduke. I was surprised by how competent Jerry already was on pedal steel at this point. He didn't play the pedal steel parts on Aoxomoxoa so I am guessing he had been playing steel less than a year when the show was recorded. It is a difficult instrument to play and even more difficult to play well, I kept wondering how he had enough time to woodshed and learn the instrument considering how many shows a year the Dead were playing at that point and how much time they were spending writing, rehearsing and recording new music. Ron, Susan, Mica and Alembic get a thank you call-out in the liner notes. If you like the Riders and are interested in hearing how the music came together, grew and developed in the early days of the band I highly recommend this release.

Just ordered mine, (along with the reel-to-reel T shirt). I didn't know this was available now through the OSF website. - Amazons is taking pre-orders for a January release. Thanks for the head's up, Stephen.

There is a place on the East Coast that is also taking pre-orders and has the best pre-order price I have seen to date, $37.97 with no tax or shipping charge. I have never done business with them so can't vouch for their reliability.

OSF remains the only source that is shipping now and the set is on sale for $40 until 1/10 when it is officially released and the price goes up $10.
Bill, OSF ships out of Occidental so you should get your order quickly. Our copy was a gift from my brother and we got it four days after I sent him our xmas "wish list". Speaking of reel-to-reel, OSF offers one of the shows from the Doc Watson box on reel-to-reel tape format through another company in Daly City, CA. The Tape Project has a fairly large catalog of releases all transferred from the master reels including one of the Garcia Grisman LPs.

Wow, Bullmoose, they have a store in Portsmouth, NH. Great music store (records, CDs, Tapes, new, used). Had I known I would have just driven up and gotten one. Ordered it through the Owsley Foundation site, it shipped out today :) I love the Doc, Merle, and T.Michael box, arrived on Saturday!
