I just purchased pickups that came with a set of screws for installation. Can anyone tell me what screws are for what position? Do you put the screws responsible for pickup height adjustment underneath the pickup? Should I be using threaded inserts or just have a hole drilled to just smaller than the diameter of the screw?
Here is the number of screws and their corresponding length.
2 - 25 mm
2 - 19 mm
4 - 12 m

Threaded inserts are a good idea. Two screws go underneath offset diagonally to adjust the height And angle, and two screws inserted from the top in the remaining holes to tighten down the pickup. Here is a thread from the FAQ page that should help:

Note: looks like you have to be logged in to see the annotated picture on the FAQ page, which shows where the different size screws go.
Looking at the photo, I’d guess that:
two of the 12mm screws go under each pickup offset diagonally;
The two 19mm screws are inserted from the top in the two remaining diagonally offset holes in the neck pickup; and
The two 25mm screws are inserted from the top in the two remaining diagonally offset holes in the bridge pickup.
Take a look at the FAQ photo to confirm.

Thanks rv bass!
Does Alembic typically have threaded inserts for these? My luthier and I are a bit confused as to how you would go about this without them?

Here are two more helpful guides from the FAQ section.
Installing threaded inserts (http://club.alembic.com/index.php?topic=207.0) - this thread shows how to install threaded inserts; the last post addresses inserts for pickups specifically and the insert size.
Pickup height adjustment (http://club.alembic.com/index.php?topic=214.0) - talks about how to adjust pickup height.

Thanks David,
But I'm curious, do Alembic basses have threaded inserts for pickups? Shouldn't my pickups have come with them if so?
-
I don't work at Alembic and don't know what's included with pickup orders. You could call Mary at Alembic; I believe she's the person who handles parts orders. Your luthier may know what's needed, or may already have them, once they see the instructions linked above.

We usually only include the screws if you're replacing pickups in an Alembic bass. Sorry for the confusion. If you'd like to get some threaded inserts, please contact us and we'll help you out.
