Title: 1985 Distillate Rosewood - Reverb
Post by: darnellbass on October 25, 2019, 09:32:30 AM
Looks like it's in great condition. Although I'd ask the seller a few questions, he can't seem to figure out the electronics...
Zebra wood on the back of the headstock. Very tempting. Update: not so tempting

Controls have been altered.
I asked the seller for a photo of the controls. He sent this:

I saw that one as well.  The volume & tone knobs were the first clue that something wasn't kosher.  Also the top appears to be Bocate, not Rosewood.

That should be illegal.

Nah... pardonable mi$demeanor in my book, provided you didn't drill extra hole$.  ;)

That's a pretty bass. I agree, bocate top. Love the zebrawood headstock reverse too... that's a nice old-school throw-back.

About the electronics...

From the picture, it's hard to tell what the three toggle switches might be doing, but the active electronics are definitely EMG. The little board with the switch is a PA2 preamp/boost and the other circuit is a BTC bass/treble control.

Just a guess...The PA2 might be used as a buffer for the pickups (I've seen this done before), which then feed the active bass/treble.
While the electronics aren't Alembic, it might not sound that bad. It may be a bit bright sounding though (hmmm... maybe two of the three switches are used to address that...).

Oh well, just my 2 cents.
