This custom Spoiler looks pretty awesome, and at a great price.

The seller claims that the bass does not have a serial number. Or that, more accurately the serial is Nancy001. Hmmm.
I asked him directly and he says that there is no actual serial. I told him to look in all the usual places, under the truss plate in case it is flipped upside down, last fret, inside control cavity. He still says there is not actual serial number...
Mica?

I'm thinking this was a personal build. I'm pretty sure I know who made it here on shop night, so I left a message and we'll see.
-
Thanks Mica!
So if it was in fact a personal build made on shop night, would it still quality as an official authentic Alembic?
-
We generally consider them not official Alembics, since they are personal builds - we've talked about it on the club here many times. They don't have serial numbers and I'm not able to track all of them. But please don't contact the seller about this because I'm on top of it with them.
It's also possible this is an official Alembic with a removed serial number (intentional or unintentional). It appears very Alembic to me, and it has a logo.
-
Understood. Thank you.
-
I thought the radiusing around the perimeter of the body looked unusual, but seems legit outside of that. Very cool bass. I would have reversed the bridge pickup though. ;D
-
I am also curious to know how he can say it is an 89 without having any serial number.
Whatever the case, it is a very cool bass!!
-
FC... I think this one is for you!!
-
Now that I think about it, it's kinda closer to a Persuader with the half-moon TRC and P pickup. It's just got another P instead of a J, and different electronics (Signature?).
-
They do look to be signature.
Seller sent me a photos of the controls.
-
Thanks for the heads up, I see why you would think I would be interested... :-)
Could it be that the builder did not become the owner, instead a famous person saw it when it was finished and bought it directly?... Mica?
I must pass though, I have two beauties on order now (Replica's of basses used by a famous person)
-
Yes, I must also pass. Too many unknowns.
-

It appears so. Wolfe guitars says It was purchased by Jason Newstead. It has some sort of inventory sticker on the underside of the control cavity.
Apparently Wolfe guitars is selling a huge collection of Jason's and all the basses have similar inventory stickers.
Pretty cool!
-
Jason didn't buy this bass from us. It does appear to be a shop night bass. Jason befriended many of the guys here, and so it's probable he bought it from them.
-
I'm guessing the shop night basses have no build sheet?
-
I'm guessing the shop night basses have no build sheet?
Correct. Shop Night instruments are personal projects, and don't have a serial number, so there's no file. But I'm happy to look at these instruments and give educated guesses as to what they are made of. Many times I'll remember the instrument and who made it.
-
Thanks Mica! I hope you and yours have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
-
Does anyone think the price is fair due to the signature electronics and Newsted connection?
-
A VERY suspicious listing for this same bass, almost a year to the day later. A hidden BIN for $1700. This has the hallmarks of a classic scam. Use EXTREME caution.
