Hi Gang!
Does anyone know if a long scale custom deluxe Scorpion Bass will fit in the Anthology Gear Revelator Bass gig bag?
Cheers!

For the pricetag the ask, I'm hoping they tailor it to fit your bass exactly. (and maybe throw in a bedtime story) If not, I'd be shopping around. Seriously, nice case, and I'm not even big on gig bags.
I went there looking for dimensions and found none, so one wonders. (assume you did the same...)

*found the dimensions:
• Length - 52"
• Width - Upper Bout 16", Lower Bout 18"
• Depth - body 6", including pouch 8"
Interior:
• Length - 50" (removable contour padding at base reduces internal length to 48")
• Width - Upper Bout 14", Lower Bout 16"
• Depth - 3 1/2"

Sounds like it will fit, but I need to research it a bit more. The price is steep, but quite a bit less expensive than the bass!
I measured the internal/external dimensions of the G&G case that came with the bass, and they are virtually identical (the Anthology Gear case has about 1/2-inch less room inside).

A 1/2" on the bouts probably won't matter... eventually the case padding will mold to the contours, but if you have the bass I'm thinking of, it has a Point on the bottom, so you'll need to account for that and possibly pad extra, which may cost you an inch or so of clearance at the headstock end. Just bear that in mind.
Say, what part of Tennessee you from?
-
Yes, my bass has the point on the end.
I live in Cookeville, one hour or so east of Nashville.
-
Ah, I remember the exit for Cookeville. Back during my days trying to get by as a musician on a crash-diet in that crazy town an hour West of you, I lived in Hendersonville, a little bit North of Nashville. Whenever there was a few days' break in the schedule, I'd head home to Virginia... we had a fiddle player who lived in Crossville I would drop off or pick up. Very little of that I-40/I-81 corridor I haven't seen.
If you're just looking for alternatives to the G&G hardshell, Club Member, Goran had Accord model a case for his omega-cut Series I, and had this thread running on it. http://club.alembic.com/index.php?topic=24051.0 They look like nice cases, but I'm not sure how they priced out. I'm guessing if we ever got a few orders together here, it might save a little on the costs.
-
I know of Hendersonville!
I will check out that link. Thanks! I think a gig bag would be a good alternative to the G&G hard case. The Anthology looks great, and they say I can return it if it does not fit, but the price....hmmm...it's still WAAAY cheaper than the bass. LOL

Reunion Blues makes a nice case a lot cheaper too

I have one, but it's not the leather one. My bass deserves leather!
I wish Alembic would make one!

Update: I bought the case in part because of its 30 money back guarantee. Good thing!
The bass does not quite fit. If the removable bottom pad they include was half as thick it would fit better, BUT...the main problem is that even with the two securing straps completely tightened, the Scorpion slides top to bottom big time. That's not good. So the case goes back on Monday. The folks at Anthology Gear were real nice about it! I'll have to "live" with the stock Alembic case (which, of course, provides a perfect fit)!
A side note: the Alembic Scorpion plays like a dream. And sounds like a dream, too!

Geez, for that kind of coin I’d be looking at a Hoffee carbon fiber, a custom Calton case, or something similar.

Hi, Bill!
Funny you should mention it, but after doing some research I am indeed looking at a Calton Case for my Alembic. We shall see....
Thanks for mentioning the two case makers!

UPDATE:
Forget Calton Cases for Alembic basses!
I sent them an inquiry and heard that a case would be about $1300 to start. I figured, OK. I was then in contact with a guy at Calton named Matt, who asked me to measure the length of my bass as Calton was having "issues" with "some" Alembics fitting in their cases. My long scale Scorpion measures 48-3/4" long, and sent that info to Matt. He then replied that as their bass case "shell" is 49" inside WITHOUT the padding, it's a no go for my (and perhaps virtually every other?) Alembic bass. I guess they are not REALLY "custom cases," then. Nice cases for sure, but are they truly "custom" cases when they really don't make cases for all basses? Just a heads-up to you guys who might be thinking about getting one of their cases. Too bad, as I like their cases, website, and "shtick."

Mike, have you tried Hoffee? My Hoffee case is currently my favorite. Much lighter than my Calton. Of course, I'm using them for guitars so I haven't run into the size issue.

I prefer the look of the Calton (who just informed me that they hope to have longer case options next year).
-
Sounds like Calton customizes the interior to fit but they only make one shell at this point.
If you missed the following thread about Goran's quest for a lightweight carbon fiber case the link is below. He ended up getting a truly custom case from Accord which he is really happy with. Apparently neither Calton or Hoffee currently offer a case that will fit long-scale Alembics, Calton has been promising a new design for a while but so far, as you found out, nothing. Good luck with the search!

They told me next year they hope to have a long scale case.

Hey Stephen, I just got my Balance K 5 string, that will go into another Accord case.
Just to add, I can fit cable, DS-5, tuner, strap inside small box so it won't damage the bass, I still love that case!
-
Hi Goran, I would love to have an Accord case for my Balance K five-string. I can barely pick up and move the bass when stored in it's flight case. Is your new five-string long scale?
-
Yes it is.
Here they are
