Selling my 1993 Series I 5-string bass. Omega and crown peghead. 34" scale. The wood laminates on the top and bottom are a gorgeous flame maple, which you can see catch the light from different angles for an extra curly look. Below the tops are the usual Purpleheart laminates and the mahogany core.
The overall condition is excellent or near-mint; I could only find one actual dent or scratch in the finish (a tiny 2mm round ding on the back) and only a few light scratches on the rear brass plates. The tuners show some normal wear in the gold finish. The brass coated tailpiece shows a little wear here and there, but 99% of the coating is intact and looks good. The frets are in excellent condition and there are no buzzes.
The bass has LEDs: Red in the normal positions and green lights at the 12th and 24th frets, making it very easy to get your bearings in a dark environment. Plus, it's always Christmas!
This bass is NEARLY a Series II: it has the required number of purpleheart laminates in the neck, LEDs and would just require upgrading the electronics to bring it up to the Series II specs of the time (I'm aware there are subtle changes that have become standard on the Series II in the years since).
I had the RF pickup upgrade done, so now the bass is back to being noise-free. The neck width is, I believe, Alembic standard for a 5-string Series instrument: 16.5mm spacing at the bridge, and 1.75" width at the nut, and 2.75" at the 24th fret. The weight is about what you'd expect, around 12.5 lbs. But only a beast like this can produce such titanic tone.
The bass comes with a black hardshell case, the original adjustment tools and a blue DS-5 portable supply, and one 5-pin XLR cable. If you don't need the supply, I will sell them separately and take $500 off.
I'm asking $8,000.00 or best offer.

Pindy, I am very interested. How do I get in touch with you?
Not sure if you are still looking for a 5 string with tighter string spacing or not but I f you are I may have something that fits that bill.
Thanks,
Jon

Hi Jon,
Getting ready to email you. Look for it soon.
-
Pindy, you should put your email address in your profile so people can easily get in touch with you if they are interested. You will notice a small envelope icon under members avatars, that enables members to click on the icon and email you through the forum.
Quite a nice looking bass and it looks to be in great shape, the electronics upgrade definitely increases the value, too. Suggest you split out the rack mount DS5 and extra cable, you may be able to get more money back selling them separately. If you sell to a player that doesn't use rack-mounted gear they are probably just going to re-sell the DS5-R anyway. Good luck with the sale, hoping you can find a "forever home" for it, someone is going to get a nice bass!

Thank you for the tips—I'll do that.

Still available—just had a missed connection.
-
This bass is still available.
If I was able to edit the original post, I would amend it to omit the comparison with a Series II, which isn't quite right. The laminates thing is nothing to do with a Series II (a very old conversation with Mica that I think I misunderstood), to say nothing about the inlaid logo you would get with a Series II, which was a costly option. It's a Series I through and through!
-
It's a fine bass in any case.

This has to be one of the classiest Series basses to ever come up on these pages. Of course... I'm kinda' partial to 5-string Omega-cut Alembics, especially maple ones, with three purpleheart laminates. (this is "Chain-Links" bigger, badder sister!) ;D
*having done a recent deal with Dan, my purchase was already packed and shipped, the same day - buy with confidence.

Perhaps you should add it to your collection!

I'm just wondering if you recieved my PM? Thanks.

Frantically searching for a "Like" button. That's a beautiful bass!

Hi—just in a meeting. I'll get back to you ASAP.
-
Not sure I did receive, actually.
-
Send it again :)

We have a sale! Thanks everybody for your interest.

Spreading the alembic love to the new owner.
-
The new owner let me know it arrived safely and I had a real moment of wistfulness; that bass saw me through from my early-twenties to now, when upon discovering it I sold both basses I owned, plus my computer and printer in order to pay for it. I did all that without hesitation and never regretted it. I have a feeling it won't be my last Alembic.
-
Thanks Dan - I'm over the moon at finally owning a Series instrument! It will be much loved, cherished and played in my care! And thanks JazzyVee for the kind welcome to the Club. I do also own an Epic Fretless 5 string and have been a member here since 2012.

Chris,
