Check out this one - the wood for the body came from Alembic’s garbage!

Scrap wood is always available to the people that work here (and we share with many other local craftspeople) - but bodies and necks with defects are actually never scrap except to use as tests here or to recycle into fixtures here. We;ve got lots of Maple and Purpleheart striped tool handles. I have even seen examples of whole instruments we abandoned partway for one reason or another and only intended to use for training or experimenting, yet they found their way in the world somehow. Some people say our garbage is better than some people's guitars, but if we've decided to stop building something, there's usually a compelling reason.
P.S. If we really scrap a body ever, it's cut in at least 2 pieces.

As some 'in the know' folks know, Gilmer Wood in Portland OR is one great place for high-end wood to build a guitar out of.
