Hello All,
I just joined club Alembic! Since I've owned Alembic gear for 30 years, I figured it was about time (Someone on TalkBass suggested Club Alembic). I'm going to sell my 4-string Essence. I'm the original owner. Is there anything I need to know aside from listing it? I figured I'd get some input before I list it. Trying to avoid doing anything dumb. Many thanks.

There you go! :)

First, Welcome to the Alembic Club! My input: don't do it. ;D
My other input: if you're going to sell it, unless you're in a desperate situation needing cash, spend some time looking around the internet for comparable models so you know what to ask for yours. If you take good pictures, price it right, and are patient, you'll sell.
Likewise, if you have no idea what you have, and are open to offers, there are flipper-sharks just waiting for you... your bass will be on eBay and Reverb before it even gets loaded on the brown truck, listed at twice what you got next week. I've seen it.

I'll second what Greg just indicated but would add that as you look around the internet you should focus on what Alembic instruments actually sold for as opposed to what is currently listed. There are some basses on eBay and Reverb that have been up for over a year and haven't sold because their prices are way out of line. On the other hand, a member recently used a listing on this board to sell a very nice looking Europa bass in somewhere in the neighborhood of 7 days.
When you put your bass up for sale, use the club board because here you'll fine musicians who truly appreciate the quality of Alembic. And include a photo or two to gain people's interest. It much more effective in getting everyone's attention than just a write up. If you have trouble posting photos there are people here who can help you with that task.

Thanks for the advice. I really don't want to sell it, but...you know. I'll take good pictures, etc. Sounds like price is key. I don't want to be one of these guys who's emotional connection to his gear trumps the market reality; but likewise, I don't want to get screwed either. On the other hand, if I was independently wealthy, I'd probably hoard basses and need a family intervention.
-
If my “family” really knew how many basses I have.....there might be an intervention! Even I don’t have an exact count.....it’s at least 37 but I seem to find more. Oh, they are all complete......no bits & pieces.

I have more than I "need", but nowhere near 37, lol

Hi Robbie !!! aka Mech ! It's Mike here, aka mb94952. The Alembic club is a fun place just like the Peavey threads on TB. I've noticed a lot of Cirrus players and Alembic players are alike and interchangeable. In other words, a lot of Alembic players also have a Cirrus kicking around. Yours truly included.
