Title: Series I pickup troble
Post by: bassstar on June 16, 2003, 07:43:22 PM
Hi Mica,

I have two troubles on my old alembic bass.

One is 1983 series I bass.
Serial is 832854.
Front pickup does not work.
No sound heard from front pickup.
I believed PF6 circuit is OK.
Because I heard no sound from rear pickups
when I did swap front pickup for rear pickup.
I measured pickup resistance.
Front pickup was 3.6M ohms.
Rear pickup was 1.6K ohms.
I think Front pickup coil is wire break.

Two is 1975 series I bass.
Serial is 75AE015.
Hum canceling pickup does not work.
Previous owner tried to repair a coil.
But He gave up re-wiring.
I have its hum canceling pickup but it was taken apart.

I want to solve these problems.
I am living in Japan.
Oversea transporting is very expensive and high risk for my basses.
If I send you these pickups, would you exchange or repair them?

Mica:

Could you estimate how much it would cost to exchange broken Series I pickups to new pickups?

I have two broken pickups,83's front pickup and 75's hum cancel pickup.

It's not really possible to repair a pickup, I can only offer replacements.

We have the original molds still and can make a replica of the pickups you have. The single coil pickups are $120 and the hum canceller is $65. If we can't supply with the original connector we will provide adapters so the installation is easy.

Mica,
With the upper photograph, hum canceller is the connector of a cylinder form.
The front pickup is a box type connector.

By what method should I buy new pickups?
