Title: Rumbling noise in the output of Orion Electronic - issue solved!
Post by: Spyder2015 on April 12, 2019, 01:37:38 AM
A very big "Thanks" to Mica for helping to solve the issue as follows:
Last year, I got my 2nd Alembic - an Essence 5-string with Orion-Electronic on board. This means having a pan pot for the PU selection, a pot for volume and two more for treble and bass.
Now...after all this time, a rumbling, randomized noise - comparable to a distant thunderstorm - did overlay the output signal.
It becomes louder and louder by the time.
Reason was really simple - an electrolytic condenser was placed in the wrong way due to a very small but effective error in the layout printing on top of the PCB.
Mica found out, that the "destroying process" of that condenser took that long due to the fact that it was capable of taking 35V but being operated by only 4.5V.
So in the first time of using the electronic no effect was audible. She said it's only concerning the first generation of this special PCB having a pan pot in front and two trim pots on the back.

Well...since I got my degree in electronics a few decades ago :-), for me it was an easy thing to fix the error myself 8) and happyness is back :-).

So...Just in case the same effect appears to you while playing bass...just turn down the volume pot - if the sound remains, it's really an upcoming thunderstorm :-)

Martin thanks for sharing the fix.

I checked your band out through the link in the Gig thread, loved the video.  Sounds like you cover a vast range of material and having both your Alembics dialed in is important.

Paul (who feels compelled to quote Bob Seger: “I woke last night to the sound of thunder...”)

Yes...thanks for the feedback! Well...we have a repertoire of nearly 100 songs, all across the rock history of the past 6 decades. Every band member plays just by heart, no music stands are allowed on stage. Also we cover songs where most of the other bands say ... „oh, that‘s not possible, too heavy for us“... Sample: I never saw any hobby band like ours cover „Black dog“ by Zep. Love to play it using the Spyder - bridge pickup only, Octaver switched on, my mid-boosted pre-programmed sound chosen on my TC Rebel Head -> Perfect result!!! Love it!!!
