Title: No Factory to Customer?
Post by: jon_jackson on March 22, 2019, 07:23:57 AM
I've noticed with regret the lack of activity on the Factory to Customer thread. This was one of my favorite parts of the Alembic Club when it was active. The last post was almost a year ago (May 9, 2018) on the last build thread which began June 6, 2017.

The post about the progress of a Series II build in Dreaming For Now made me think of it again.

I realize there are probably good and logical reasons for the lack of use of Factory to Customer (I'm sure it is super labor intensive for Mica, for one), but I am still sorry it has fallen into disuse. I miss it.  :(

I loved it too - but these days everyone pretty much requests private emails for updates.

I miss the featured customs. Haven't seen a new one since "Telluride", which was over a year ago.

I miss them a lot. I learned a lot about Alembic basses in that thread and also got to know my Alembic-owning colleagues better.

OK, a few of you already know this, but last year was a terrible one for my personal health. I was basically sick over a year, culminating in heat exhaustion which led to a bevy of tests that revealed I have Graves' Disease (overactive thyroid). I have been on the medication for three months now, and am doing MUCH better. But yeah, things like the Featured Custom suffered because I was basically too sick and too tired to do anything extra. I'm sorry that you miss new ones, I do too, but there are a couple hundred of them up there, the archive didn't go anywhere.
Meanwhile, I've been spending my website time with the development of our new website... with any luck it might be ready at the end of May, and it will have the return of the Featured Custom.

That's a good news can't wait to see new website, glad to see you are doing fine, my wife has hipotireoidismo so I can imagine how you felt.

(((Hug))) If there is one thing this past year has taught me, it's that there is work, and there is life. Granted, yours are considerably more connected than most folks are. Just keep those priorities straight there, girlie... we love a good Featured Custom thread, but we love you too.  ;)

I will try to call you this week Mica as I want to get my stuff ordered and paid for before the Brexit situation here starts affecting the cost of things into the UK. ;-)

GET BACK TO WORK, AND QUIT YER COMPLAINING!!!!  (Just Kidding, please don't evict me!). We all love what you do, and I'm so sorry to hear about your health issues.  Please take care, thyroid issues are very real, trust me.

Micah, your ARE Alembic to most of us, and there is a deep, deep pool of love and respect for you and your family out here.  So glad they found out what was wrong, and so very glad you're getting a handle on it and doing better.  I know between your family and the business you probably need an 8-day week with 25-hour days to get to everything, but YOU come first.

All the Very Best, and Take Care !

Mica,
I totally hear what you are saying and meant no disrespect. I was just saying that I really enjoy the featured custom section and miss seeing new entries. Didn't mean to come off like I was complaining. So I hope you didn't take it that way. ;)
I wish you the best with your health issues. Glad they figured out the the problem. I had some really annoying issues last year myself with my sinuses that took the Doctors several months to figure out what was going on.

Glad the meds are helping--take care of yourself, and I don't mean that lightly. Keeping yourself healthy is job#1 in the magical years of middle age, it just takes a bit more work as the years pass (some old people have told me, certainly no direct experience myself! ;) ).

It's great you're doing better. I'm new(ish) here and you've been awesome support. Rest easy when you can.

Thank for the love. I didn't mean to be complainy, but I felt like you guys deserved and explanation as to what was happening. Good stuff on the horizon for the improved website. So many more pictures!
