Title: Jaco movie
Post by: David Houck on March 13, 2019, 07:20:39 PM
I finally saw the Jaco movie that Robert Trujillo made; I think we watched it on netflix, or maybe hulu.  It was wonderfully made.  A lot of ground covered in the short space of a documentary.  The Milkowski biography covers a lot more detail and is definitely worth the read; but this documentary was better than I expected.  Recommended if you haven't yet seen it.  Made me want to go back and listen to those Joni Mitchell and Weather Report albums.

Netflix.  And yes, I concur with Dave's recommendation.

Oh OK, whenever I looked for it on Netflix nothing about it showed up. Just looked again and although I can see the name Jaco and Jaco Pastorius Live and Outrageous, nothing about those titles comes up when I select either just shows general music based content. Maybe it isn't available in the UK version of Netflix

I have it on dvd. Superb movie and well worth watching several times. It's great to see footage of a young Jaco before the demons set in

There was also supposed to be a movie on both Stanley Clarke & Marcus Miller which I have not found yet. Any pointers?

I also couldn't find the Jaco movie on Netflix here in the states. My guess is that you have to pay extra for the subscription model that includes access to DVD movies, I only have the basic HD service.

I've watched it on Hulu a couple of times. I think Robert Trujillo did a great job on putting the documentary together.

I just have the basic Netflix streaming service, and it's been on my "To Watch List" for a few years now (I watched it, but didn't want to take it off).  Though I have seen other things I watched disappear from Netflix, and I haven't looked for Jaco in a while; I'll try to remember to check & see if it's still there next time I'm downstairs.

OK, I checked; it seems that Netflix has dropped it.  Bummer.

Great movie, but man, so tragic. I saw him a couple of times with Joni and Weather Report in the 70s when he was at the top of his game. I couldn't bear to go see him after that.

I miss him.

It's really well done. I picked the DVD package which had 2 discs, when it was released - the second one has interview out-takes that did not feature in the film and are very interesting viewing.
