Alembic has been in my life since pretty much day one, as a fretless Elan 6 was my dad's bass of choice ever since I was born. Just recently, he let me get my hands on it to set it up. The thing is beat up since it was used all throughout my parent's gigging career in the 90s (sometimes a few gigs a day a hundred miles away from each other) and it just needed some TLC to get it back up to snuff. The bass always was something mystical to me; this massive hunk of wood and brass on a stand in the living room. Now, since he let me fix it up, I realized how amazing the build quality is on these basses and how versatile the electronics are. Truly out of this world!

Welcome, and Thanks for a nice story!
Yours sounds a lot like my impression the first time I held an Alembic in my hands, some 20 years ago, a Distillate 5-string. I thought it was the most fascinating piece of woodworking applied to a bass guitar I'd ever seen. Then I played it... the experience branded me for life.
