Title: Series I info
Post by: glocke9704 on August 01, 2003, 04:28:16 AM
Hi Mica (or anyone else),

I found a series I in a local music store and was hoping to get some info on it.  The serial number is 77702, and is apparently imprinted on the headstock. It looks like it is all original, except that someone put chrome schaller tuners on it.  It comes with the original hardshell case, and power supply.  The aking price is $2995.00, is that reasonable?  thanks alot..

Hey glocke9704!

Welcome to the club;) As far as the Series I goes, have you played it? Do you like the tone and feel? What condition is it in? And lastly, do you like it?

I think a good idea would be to compare it to what is SELLING on ebay. That will tell you what they are currently going for. By the way, I believe it's a 1977.

Hey paul,

the condition is excellent..

Glocke9704 - You mentioned that this bass came with chrome Shaller tuners.  Chrome and gold tuners are what they came with back then.  I think I have seen more chrome ones than gold.  I would bet they are original.  That sound like a reasonable figure for a bass that is in excellent condition, but there are better bargains of course if you shop.  I have had the pleasure of owning many series basses over the years and have paid anywhere from $700.00 to $3500.00 for them used.  I paid $1550.00 for a brand new one in early 1978!

I agree with Michael.  I've been watching Alembic prices on Ebay for a good while and $3,000 does not seem unreasonable for a Series I in excellent condition.

I also paid under $2000 (IIRC, 1675) for mine on ebay a little less than a year ago. Included case & power supply & was a one-owner 1977 with just the right amount of mojo :-).

Mine is 77621, so not too far (81 Alembics earlier)from the one in question.

I immediately sent it to Alembic for the electronics upgrade - the improvement was dramatic!

You might want to factor the likelihood of the upgrade into any price for a 70s era Series.

BTW, mine also has chrome Schallers.

Frank.

I'm no good at helping with the values of used instruments, so I defer to the knowledge of the experienced Club members for that information.
