Title: 1969 - '70 Guild Starfire for restoration
Post by: edwardofhuncote on November 19, 2018, 05:58:55 AM
It's a sad mess, and the price is a little steep, but the bridge and tailpiece suggest someone had bigger plans for this Starfire at one time.

Kinda' reminds me, I need to get back to work on my Starfire project...

Looks like the headstock/neck joint was formerly lunch for a beaver!

Bill, tgo

Whatever they are smoking, they should share. That price is insane. Anything over $500 should be able to play out of the gate to some degree.

Yeah, pretty crazy. They've got the ad set so you can't even make an offer, and have rationalized the price by past or current sales, somehow missing they were/are playable instruments. I don't smoke, but brownies are nice. ;D

Still, the sentimental idiot in me gazes into the pictures, and thinks- "I could totally fix that headstock... re-bind that body..."

Anybody got a guess on the bridge pickup make?

After reading the description it seems this fan is attached to the big numbers other
better examples have sold for. Maybe time will cure that  ;)

I'll guess a Teisco variant on the bridge pickup.
At first I thought Univox, but I don't see any Univox foil pups.

Guild used some funny looking pickups prior to the BiSonic, so it may be original.

As Edwin pointed out, likely an old Guild pickup

I believe those are referred to as the "Mickey Mouse" pickup. I don't think anyone knows why. Apparently they were not made by Hagstrom. All my info comes from letstalkguild.com (http://www.letstalkguild.com/ltg/forum.php)
