Title: mutes
Post by: mavnet on November 08, 2018, 04:25:33 PM
Hi, all. I saw a video the other day of someone with a fender style bass using a string mute. It sat close to the bridge, and by using a little lever could either press against the strings or be out of the way. On my non-Alembic basses, I sometimes stuff some foam under the strings, or do the Carol Kaye tape with foam over the string thing. There's not really any room on my bass between the bridge and the pickup, and I'd rather not use tape. Are there any commercial mutes that you know about that are appropriate for Alembics? Thanks! Mark.

Is this the one you are thinking about? and yeah I doubt it would fit many alembics except maybe an Excel or other model with a single pickup in the P bass spot.

Mark, the ladies in our Lab saved me a couple of these foam punch-outs from sample vial holders... they make a pretty good mutes for -as you say- hard to get much of a commercially available version between the bridge and pickup.

Here is one on my '81 Distillate.

Ah. that looks perfect. Not too muffling, and can squish into the space. I think i have some things like that lying about, i'll check into it. Thanks!

I've got the Groove Gear Fump home last month just to realize it would never fit, back to palm muting...
