Title: Need a luthier in Florida
Post by: Fettin on November 08, 2018, 07:43:19 AM
I just moved to Southwest Florida and am looking for a good luthier to set the action on my Alembic.  I’m located in the Ft. Myers/Cape Coral area but driving a distance is not an issue.  Recommendations?

I'm sure there are a couple Club Members down there that can direct you to a competent shop, but setting up your Alembic is easy, and a little bit fun once you know how. Here is a nice, easy-to-understand post that'll get you there:

I'm sure there has to be something closer than Bass Central in Orlando, but worst case scenario, they are an Alembic dealer.  I'm sure they could take care of you there.

I second Ed's post though- Alembics are really easy to dial in on your own.  Read Joey's post about setups in the FAQ section and you can't go wrong.

There's a guy named Larry Lashbrook in Ft. Lauderdale, I believe.  He was Yngwie Maelstrom's guitar tech.  I have one of his custom guitars based somewhat on Garcia's Cripe guitar.  Better than excellent handiwork, absolutely gorgeously crafted guitar.  You might try him.

Thank You Bill, Ed & tbrannon.  I’m switching my five string tuning from Low B to a High C.  The change in tension has resulted is some fairly radical truss rod adjustments.  I’ve gone through the process in Joey’s post several times and it’s getting pretty close to where it should be.  I’d like to get it to a pro after I’m done to see if it can be tweaked further and also to make sure I haven’t hosed anything up (like induced twist in the neck).

Thanks for the input.

I found a good luthier, Joe Pantan, working out of the Sam Ash store in Orlando.  Joe has owned two Alembics in the past and is familiar with their construction.  He was able to disassemble the bridge, cut new saddles to accommodate a high C tuning on a five string and put it all back together with the spacing and action in perfect shape.  I’m pretty happy with him so I’ll keep his name and number.
