While I don't have a Facebook account, I've been told that on his band's Facebook page, it's been reported that our fellow club member FC Bass, aka Flip, has been undergoing a lengthy recovery from a surgical procedure. That's as much as I know, but we all wish Flip the best, and hope he fully recovers soon.
-
Sorry to hear this. Flip I'll keep you in my thoughts.
-
Oh wow, Flip... I feel it, man. Hang tough buddy. :(
-
We'll be thinking of you, Flip! Here's a to a quick recovery!
-
All the best, Flip, hope you recover quickly!
-
Wow sorry to hear that Flip. I hope it goes well for you and you regain your strength and good health. Music is great therapy so try to get back to playing those wonderful basses as soon as you are strong enough and let the vibes do their thing too.

From his band's FaceBook page it says (at least the translated version) that he has recovered and will be playing live with them again on 26 October. So all sounds good!
-
Hey Flip. Glad you made it.
Hope there was little or no pain.
Peace to you brother.

Hope you're doing better, Flip. (And, while I'm at it, thanks for all the great posts you've put up - so far!)

I have some inside info :-)
Thanx all!
This is what me and some of my family members have to deal with on a daily basis: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hereditary_multiple_exostoses
Luckily for us we have a mild version of this inconvenience, but nevertheless it can be very annoying and painful sometimes...
I've had 4 growths removed from my knees in my teenage years (I think I was around 17) after that I never really paid much attention to it and just took in the discomfort of the occasional "pain waves"
Things have drastically changed in my situation in the last +/-5 years, to the point where I wasn't able to breathe normally without feeling a sharp pain in my back.
I was directed to a HMO specialist in Amsterdam and they mapped out every corner/detail in my body (extensive X-ray puzzle, full body MRI and some pet scan images)
They discovered a growth on the inside of a rib that was poking in my lung, obvious suspect there :-)
First plan was to cut the rib on each side of the growth and remove that part of the rib with growth, which had the obvious downside of leaving a gap in the rib (would be no problem , because there's very much muscle stuff in there that keeps things together) :-)
But he later came with another option; Going in with a chisel through keyhole surgery, and remove the growth from the inside. For this procedure the need to collapse the lung to make room for the instrument and camera, so I had to wait a bit longer because a Thorax (rib cage area) specialist was needed.
I went for the second option and they removed a 5 cm weird looking "bone mass thingy" on June the 28th, plus another tiny one that couldn't be seen on the mri and X-rays
About everything I experienced in the hospital was as good as painless, before surgery there's that tiny -but very effective- groovy pill and they were very generous with oxycodone and some other painkiller.
For those interested, I have some pictures and maybe even get the filmed footage. I won't post them here or on Facebook (pretty bloody stuff) but have no problem sharing them if requested by email.
So recovery involved: Two tiny wounds (about 3cm) and severe bruised ribs (bruised from the inside!) ???
I opted to stay away from the heavy painkillers, so that was pretty painful...
But now since some weeks it all feels pretty normal again and the ability to breathe normally feels very good. :P
Also a bit weird and very "refreshing" after +/-25 years of discomfort.
I've stopped playing with the band at the end of 2017 and was replaced by the almighty Menno Meinema.
If you're on facebook, plz look him up and give him kudos. Great guy and awesome bass player, he did a great job on such short notice.
And indeed the 26th and November the 3rd it will be Alembics roaring through Mesa's again :-)
Can't wait to give 'em some full lung capacity Newsted style screams again. ;D
Thanx again all and enjoy life as much as you can in good health!
-
Dang Flip, I don't know what to say except I'm very glad to hear you came through it okay. I knew you'd been off-duty for a while, but figured you were entitled to a little break. ;D
Keep on getting better buddy... I'll be rooting for your triumphant return to the stage from waaaay over here! ~GH

Sounds great. Glad you are doing well!

Hey, Flip. Good to hear you are through the woods and will soon be back to playing. Nothing is as important as health.
Bill, tgo

Wow! That sounds like a major ordeal. Glad you have recovered and are ready to start playing again.
Be well; and enjoy.
-
Ain't health a wonderful thing!
-
I'm glad to hear that this round of treatment seems to be successful and that you can "breathe easy" again. Hopefully there will be video documentation published of your return to the stage!
-
To your healing! Best wishes.
-
Good recovery, Flip
-
Flip , It is certainly great news to read that your recovery has been successful and that you are playing gigs again .
-
Glad it worked, Flip; I'm a bit of a fan of breathing, myself.......

Stay strong, Flip.

While I haven't been through it myself I have a daughter whose lung collapsed and even with the use of laparoscopic surgery the rib cage area pain was pretty intense. It's good to hear you have recovered and feeling better.
-
Hi, Flip,
I am glad to hear that you are feeling better, and that you will soon be back on stage. Cheers!
-
Hey Flip, Thinking of you here too. Get well soon! Those Alembics won't play themselves, or.....can.... they???? :-)
-
Quick recovery and a long and healthy life ahead for you Flip! Over here folks are not offering any oxys or such things. After quad bypass surgery and a 4 month recovery it was mostly Tylenol extra strength! Same for oral implant surgery. Oh well. Glad you are on the mend and continued success to you Sir.
