Title: Level 42

Saw Level 42 again last night at the Derngate, Northampton UK.  Better than ever and very good sound. MK using two Status new version T-basses - one with blue LEDS and the other red.  His voice was great as well.  Brass section terrific.  MK is 60 next Saturday.  I bought a Level 42 mug  :D :D :D :D .

I saw them last night at the Symphony hall in Birmingham. They were superb. The last time i saw them was in the 80’s. I have always found the bass in that venue is below par. Yesterday was no different. The blow monkeys bass was so vague you could hardly determine a musical note  unless he used a lick. Mark’s new basses didn,t sound dramatically much clearer especially in the low end, but there was no punch or bottom end until he came out for the encore with the second bass with a pj setup and played a short unaccompanied solo. Just like in the 80’s when i saw them it sounds like most of the low end in the music is coming from a sequencer. The brass was incredible and so tight. Despite my disappointment in the  bass sound Mark and the band played superbly and are still amazing musicians to see perform.

I agree jazzyvee with your points.  I also have seen them at Symphony Hall and other places and have always felt the bass drum was too loud in the mix, blocking the bass somewhat - but I generally think that anyway and MK was a drummer!! Pete RB is a lovely drummer.
I think I was more fortunate at Derngate with the sound but, as you say, the musicality, harmony and tightness is still all there in abundance. I just think, also, that MK comes over as a really nice bloke.  I thought the Blow Monkeys chap was a bit arrogant but good voice and a rather tedious set - I remember the big hit that ended their set but didn't take a lot of notice of them back then.
Oddly, I was in Bristol this weekend and Level 42 were there on Sat - it was his 60th birthday - no I didn't send him a card even though I sort of expected to meet him in the street. I am 69 in December and don't seem to be able to act my age in this area!!!

Sorry - they were at Bristol Sunday - it was his birthday Sat.
