Title: Carvin DCM200L no stereo output
Post by: rv_bass on September 30, 2018, 07:16:37 PM
Hello Everyone,
I have a new Carvin DCM200L power amp.  I'm running a Series I guitar with stereo output from the 16-pin into a DS5 with stereo out, into an F-2B. Each guitar out from the DS5 goes to a separate channel on the F-2B and channel A from the F-2B goes to Chanel 1 of the Carvin, and channel B of the F-2B goes to channel 2 of the carvin.  I then have Chanel 1 & 2 of the Carvin going to their own speaker cabs.  This should give me stereo output (channel 1 only in speaker 1 and channel 2 only in speaker 2), but both channels come out of both speakers.  The parallel button on the back of the Carvin is not pressed in, so it should output in stereo according to the user manual.  When I hook up a different power amp to this configuration I get stereo output (channel 1 in speaker 1 only; and channel 2 in speaker 2 only).  Does anyone have any thoughts on why I am not able to get stereo output from the Carvin using this setup?

Thanks for the help!

Rob, I also use an F-2B into a Carvin DCM 200L.  Love the set up.   I'm not in front of mine at the moment, but I did just check the manual.  It it does not say which position of the Parallel switch (in or out) is which.  Whichever position your's is in, I would try the other.

Bill, tgo

Bill, thanks for your suggestion.  It looks like the parallel button should be in the out position (not pressed in).  It’s working perfectly now with stereo output.  I think I may have found the problem.  Originally I was using a “stereo” Reverb box with two inputs and two outputs.  I think that box is not true stereo and was combining the signal to mono even though it has two outs.  I did not use that box tonight and I got true stereo out of the amp with the same set up as the other day.  I’ll try it with the reverb box tomorrow to confirm this was the cause.  Thanks!  Rob

Rob, to use a Reverb like that (one single effect per channel) you'll need a dual mono effect to avoid the unit leaking one input to the other output. In a true acoustic stereo field you expect one single sound source to spread all over the ambient (what means to say that a sound coming from one side of your head will soon be back to both ears after reflecting on room walls), that's the way sounds behave in natural enviroment. There are several software plugins that you can opt for working as true stereo or dual mono, you should look for a rack unit or reverb pedal that does it too. Sorry, I can't recall any.

Thanks, Mario, I’ll have t do a little reading on the general subject that you described.  I’ll check out the Lexicon and plugins as well.  -Rob
