Ad text claims bass has been "restored to as-new condition". Looks like it must have had Rogue/Europa electronics... they are reported to be John East 'Retro' now. Logo is missing. It is a pretty bass.

I saw this listing before. The ad is 1 year old and the sale will take place via “Meet up” (i.e. Face to Face). Perhaps we have Alembic Club members in Singapore who could look into, and maybe take advantage of it.

There’s one negative review of the seller with reference to selling copies in the past. It may or may not be related to the listing in question.

No case, from Singapore.

Last night I read a post on another site where the site member purchased a used guitar off Ebay (I think).  Seller said he would ship USPS; Buyer questioned that decision.  Seller assured Buyer that he's never had a problem shipping guitars by USPS.

The guitar arrived in a gig bag; no case, no box.  Inside the gig bag, guitar was wrapped in used bubble wrap; that was it.  Shipping label was attached to gig bag.  Miraculously, guitar appears to have arrived undamaged.

Wow Dave, that is amazing !

All that distance with insufficient protection & no damage!

Hard to believe it wasn't bounced around like a basketball!

... All that distance ...

To be clear, my reference to Singapore was to the Elan listing you cited, not to the guitar shipped in a gig bag.

When I got my Starfire back in 1993, it was the same deal. Shipped to me via UPS in a big box, no case, wrapped in newspaper. Not even bubble wrap. It survived and has thrived. OTOH, I spent less on the bass than I did on either its hardshell case or gig bag. About half of either.

Another instance of amazing.  I imagine there was that initial shock felt in the body when first realizing the nature of the packaging - fearing, expecting, the worst.

I once took a chance on an eBay listing - late 70s Jazz Bass in Mexico City. It showed up on my doorstep 2 days later (just outside Chicago). A black Fender case with the bass inside. No box, no tape holding the latches shut, nothing. UPS sticker stuck right to the case. Yikes! My wife called me at work to tell me there was a guitar at the front door (Oops...).

Another miracle; and another "what were they thinking".

The second to the last post is most likely to me. That's why for the last several days I've been chipping styrofoam out of two three inch thick pieces that I'm shaping in the form of my Series 1 fretless that Im sending back for a refurb. A Styrofoam case lined with a much softer foam with next support placed inside of a cardboard box will hopefully get the bass safely to Santa Rosa.
