Does BIN stand for "buy it never"?
-
Interesting.
-
The seller is the Alebmic dealer in Denver.
Same guy that is selling "Twilight" featured custom.
-
"Serious buyers only"! At 60K, that's the understatement of the year!
-
I knew it was too good to be true. I recently got back from Russia and my Ebay is still showing some aspects of Russian influence. I initially thought the price was in Russian Rubles (60,000 Russian Rubles = $941 U.S dollars) including some pricing. Ha! If it looks too good to be true than it probably is not true.
-
I bet it is really comfortable, light and easy to manage!
-
WOW,
Rare, can you say "understatement ! Beside the "Rex Bogue" played by John Mclaughlin, this is most stunning Twin neck ever made !! we could throw Greg Lake's "Zemaitis" in as well , But, you just look at the Alembic & you need to pick you jaw up off the floor !!
-
A real masterpiece...
-
Hm, it's here in Denver. I wonder who has it.
-
Based on his eBay handle matching his Forum name ("dinan" and "Dinan"), I think it's a "Carl".
-
A nice instrument . In the early 1990s if I remember correctly I could have purchased 72-001 and was informed with full disclosure that repairs were required but passed on the transaction . The asking price was just a small fraction of the asking price of this swell Double neck. :)
-
I think it sold in 2015 for a bit over $12.5K, including shipping. That might have been the transaction that brought Goliath to the Denver area for a spell.
-
As far as I know the current owner became a member here when he got this doubleneck a few years ago. I have corresponded with him during that time. Price-wise might as well throw it against the wall and see what sticks? If it does sell for this price, then I've got an earlier Alembic doubleneck for the bargain price of $30,000!

Didn't' Christian (speicky) own the bass for a while?
Here is an older discussion thread about the bass and John.

Guys,
yes indeed Speicky did own this bass
I had the luck that Speicky let me playing that

Great bass!

I wonder if they refixed the broken headstock. It looked questionable when I saw it last.
-
I remember when Carl bought that bass. I also remember what it was bought for. It is an icon though, and if he has a Rotosound John Judge poster to go with it, that would be icing on the cake. I tried to find a poster for Carl that I used to see on the wall at Jensen Music in Santa Barbara back in the late 70's when I got my first Alembic, but alas, they had ripped it down many years prior. If you are over 50, you know how special this bass was to the young Alembic crowd.
-
Man you are not kidding !
I remember removing mine from an issue of Guitar Player, always wishing it was in color !
No one knew who John Judge was, but we knew he had "the Bass of the ages" !
-
My old copy of Guitar Electronics for Musicians book has this pic of a John Judge guitar in it. He must have liked lots of knobs!

Mission Control !!!
