Title: Boogieman bass with tremolo on ebay
Post by: jwright9 on June 23, 2018, 08:53:06 AM
Looks pretty interesting.
Has anyone played a Boogieman? How are they?
I know this guy makes parts but was unaware he makes actual basses too.

The boogieman's ebay handle is zmeyerol or something, from Yonkers, N.Y., but this is definitely one of his builds.

I have never seen the President or CEO of Boogieman.  In my mind's eye, though, they dress like The Hamburglar, whomever they are.

And I feel OK with that.

Guys, I was asking a serious question. Legitimately curious about this bass. I think it looks like a pretty cool instrument.

I simply want to know if anyone here has played any of the basses he has built and if so, how they are.

J; your curiosity is understandable.

A few years back or so, if my recollection is correct, this guy was frequently giving Mica a hard time; repeatedly resisting her requests related to trademark infringement.

Maybe he's a lot nicer person now than he appeared to be back then; I don't know.  I do know that Mica and her family and staff work long and hard hours; and I have a lot of respect for her, Susan, Ron, Alembic, and everyone there.

So no, I haven't played any of his basses; and I don't have any desire to do so in the future.

Hi, Jon,

Here is an earlier discussion on the Forum about Boogieman and some of their wares/marketing strategy: http://club.alembic.com/index.php?topic=11044.15.  Those posts may be useful to partly address you questions.  Best of luck with your research into these basses.

Cheers,
-Zut

Do you have proof that the bassist you have alluded to was, in fact, the man in the Hamburglar suit, or is this potentially hearsay?

Is the Hamburglar willing to be deposed on this Forum to verify that he does, indeed, throw down?

I had this horrid thought pop into my head that Mayor McCheese was the Justice in this farce, and Grimace was the prosecuting attorney.  Wow, I think I need more sunlight and less cat hair.

Thanks for linking that previous thread, Zut.  I was going on memory, which for me is generally not a good choice.  :)

No worries, Dave.  I hope it might be useful to the discussion.  It seemed a helpful transcript of the events that transpired.  It's a shame there is no video/audio of the bass being played thoroughly to answer some of these questions regarding quality and playability.  Maybe it rocks; who knows?

But there is such a thing as blissful ignorance, too...and my own receding memory is an increasingly great sleep aid in that regard.

Cheers.
