If they made it, I would drive one... whatever the equivalent of a Distillate 5-string was. ;D
-
8) both my babies carry this patch.

Stealthy ...

What are we looking at? Is there a sticker somewhere to be seen in that photo?

Nope, but it's in plain view.
-
What is in plain view?
The front of a car?
-
I'll let you agonize a little longer.
-
Alembic SC‑1 4 + HX? :-)
-
Ah, you had to go and Spoiler it all ... ;D
-
Is it the slight damage mark to the right of the KIA logo? In certain light it looks just like a Series I Omega. In different light, it looks like Jesus!
hehehehe

Not damage, but outpouring from above, slightly toasted.

Now, you are sounding like Zut. (I don't understand most of what he says ;)
-
Wait , I know!
You spent all your money on your Alembic basses, so all you can afford to drive is a KIA?
Did I get it?
-
You're reading too much into it (and Flip already broke the code). Besides, the car came to us within a week after the bass, as it happens. Alembics are dirt cheap, as compared to premium cars.
-
Having lived through the Vietnam era, I just can't understand calling a car a "KIA". (And I still don't get "the code" here).

A Series instrument has two SC1 single coils and an HX dummy humcanceller. My license plate starts HX, duh.
-
I still don’t get it either.
-
You mean the connection is that this license plate has an HX and one can refer to the humcancelling dummy PU as "HX" (a reference I've never heard before)?
How about this one:
My license plate has a "336" in it. 336 is only one more than 335, a model of Gibson guitar that looks a lot like a Guild Starfire which was the basis for Phil's Godfather bass!

I'm waiting for someone to post an Europa, Elan, or Spyder. You know... Alembic cars! ;D
-
Bill: I did a cut 'n paste from the product page: http://www.alembic.com/prod/seriesi.html :-)
-
This is actually a Kia Elan ..

Jon-hey, it happens.
Adriaan- that's clever, very clever. I honestly thought you were reflected in the paint on the lower left handside of the car, wearing an Alembic t-shirt with the lettering and the divine hand holding the ouroboros all reversed, with a second person shown in the car's sigil while taking the picture.
Then, I read the correct answer and the situation became much more simplified, and not a budding 60's CIA conspiracy theory.
Good for you for being very sneaky! Especially with the pseudo-double entendre. The rabbit-hole goes deeper still!
-
I beleive the Elan and the Europa were named after the Lotus Elan and Europa sports cars. If I remember the story correctly, Ron and Susan had a Lotus when they founded Alembic.

I'm with you on this one Bill.
Does it come with a GPS called "MIA" ? ??? :D
-
I was curious, so I looked it up... the Korean characters for Kia roughly translate to; "to come out of Asia, or The East". I also did not realize the roots of Hyundai (the parent company) date back to 1944.
I save those good Alembic stickers for my cases... my cars wouldn't know how to act! ;D
-
Well here is my Alembic car.

I guess I thought Keavin’s train of thought was “Alembic is to basses as Mercedes is to cars” and “Alembic is the Cadillac of basses”.

We are looking at how a Korean company is named based on an English acronym. That’s like trying to figure out how KKK turbochargers passed the smell test . Or how Chevy had the bad sense to name a car Nova and try to sell it in Mexico. If I recall correctly, No Va translates to “won’t go”. Not the best name for a car. Then, there’s the Buick LaCrosse, which was sold under a different name in Canada, because the term LaCrosse has some rather crude sexual connotations in Quebec. I was in one of the product planning discussions on this when the Canadian name was proposed.
-
Just re-read this thread. I STILL don't get "the code".

KIA actually makes a good car. I like the SOUL a lot. But I LOVE my Alembic Europa 1992 !
