Hello friends,
I currently have several Alembic Basses for sale.
As many of you know, I own a company that specializes in Pro Audio gear and high end instruments.
I mainly sell pro audio gear for studio and live sound but I also buy/sell and trade high end instruments when possible.
Below is my current list of Alembic basses.
Please message me if you have any interest.
Thanks

Persuader 5 looks very interesting. I love the idea of a 32" 5 string. No cash at the moment, though.

Starting new thread for 2008 Brown Bass.

That Persuader 5-string speaks to me... the Distillate body and 3 purpleheart lams really make it a nice classy bass. Now, if only I weren't saving up for neck surgery. Doh!
::)
-
Distillate body?
-
The upper horn on a Distillate is a different shape than the one on this Persuader. Rest of the Persuader body does look similar to a Distillate, though.
-
Right, because this is a Persuader.
At least that is what Alembic chose to declare it as.
-
I think the Distillate electronics package was one of the first non-series electronics that Alembics put out at the cusp of the seventies and eighties and whose most common bodies had two upper horn lengths, short and long, and maintained an Alembic aesthetic and quality of construction. The body shape can be applied to other electronics packages, and the Distillate electronics can end up in different bodies.
I think, I mean, I just walked into an enclosed space, on a train, that reeked of youthful indiscretion and incinerated trichomes. So, the lasting effects of the jape of the youthful and the residue of the Devil's Lettuce may be affecting the accuracy of the description.
That said, here's an article from a more articulate person to add some information: http://www.vintageguitar.com/3920/alembic-distillate-dmsb/
Seriously, though...this ain't the Festival Express!
-
Zut, you lost me on that one.
It is evident by the serial number that it is a Persuader. Always has been, always will be.
If Alembic marked it as a Persuader, then a Persuader I will call it.
Thanks
That said, if you buy it from me, you can call it whatever you want to. LOL
-
Well, that's good, because I am not looking for a debate, either. I agree with you, that just by looking at the bass, that it ain't a Distillate. It is a Persuader. I concur.
Now that the confusion here is hopefully resolved now, best of luck with the sale.

The bass is now up for auction on ebay.
Low starting bid and no reserve.

I shall let the free market decide what it is worth.

As a former owner of this bass, I can verify that it plays well, and has great thunder in it. Very unique with the 3 purple heart laminates, and a rare 5 string in this model, whatever it is. Good balance, and is in great shape. Good luck with the sale Jon. Cheers!

OK, I'm in.

That is definitely a Distillate body. Standard Persuaders have a Spoiler body. With Alembic, you can mix and match features and body styles.

Spoiler(https://images.reverb.com/image/upload/s--DKKJR5J3--/a_exif,c_limit,e_unsharp_mask:80,f_auto,fl_progressive,g_south,h_620,q_90,w_620/v1448987492/x4mcjnho6sx1h1wt5odd.jpg)
Distillate(http://www.vintageandrare.com/uploads/products/37434/1350637/original.jpg)
(The early Distillates had a slightly shorter upper horn, but then went to more of a Spoiler style.)
-
Serial number classifies it as a Persuader.
That is all I am trying to say.

From what you guys are saying it sounds like the ONLY thing about this bass that qualifies it as a Persuader are the controls.
-
It's a Persuader, but with plenty of upgrades. (Would you want to call it a Distillate with some downgrades? That just doesn't sound right.)
-
That body is a variation on the later (I think post-1985) Distillate pattern. It has an extended upper horn, and the bird tailpiece is located much closer to the end of the bass than on a Spoiler/Persuader body.
It is most definitely a Persuader, no question. A very very very very cool Persuader with a seldom seen custom body. Good luck with the sale. ;)

This listing ends tonight in about 12 hours.

You didn't really want it anyway. ;)

Apparently the buyer didn't, either. It's back up for sale at Reverb and eBay at a much higher price.
-
That is correct Edwin, the bass is back up for sale. The buyer returned the bass.
It was actually a blessing in disguise that the buyer backed out because I did not set a reserve on the auction and it sold for much less than I expected.
Fair enough. That is how auctions go. You win some, you lose some.
Truth be told. I have $2200 into this beauty. I bought it from Joe. He will attest to the quality of the bass. (Actually, he already has)
It is my humble opinion that this bass is worth at least $2500, if not more. Seeing as how 4 string Persuaders with no upgrades go for $2k regularly, I think that this upgraded 5 string is worth $2500 or more. When I first listed it, I actually had an offer for $3000 from a buyer in Europe. I decided against sending it overseas though.
I then had another offer from a fellow in the states for about the same but he was waiting for a paycheck and then eventually changed his mind.
Thus, I do have empirical evidence to support my valuation. This is not like some of those Alembics on ebay and Reverb where the seller is asking two or three times actual value. I am just asking a little bit more, leaving room for buyers to make reasonable offers.
Yes, my asking price of $3295 may be on the high side, but as you can see, it is $3295 OR BEST OFFER.
If anyone here is interested, I would be happy to sell it for the same amount I paid which again is $2200. (plus actual shipping)
