I brought my 1992 Alembic Europa Quilted Maple 5-string to be refretted and they found that someone had used a saw to make the slots wider and now we cannot get the new frets centered properly. Does anyone have any information on how to get one that is perfectly spaced with alembic inlays? No one at alembic will return my emails or calls. Thank you.

I can't imagine there's more than one person emailing me about a replacement fingerboard for a 1992 Europa recently. I got an email on the 18th, and I replied almost immediately with advice related to removing the fingerboard. Then you replied and I said I had to research what a fingerboard would cost because we don't generally sell wooden parts. I don't know the answer yet, but I will reply again once I know, and it may still take a few more days.

I just resent my last email in case you didn't get my last email.

Thank you very much. I really appreciate that. I sent what you wrote to my tech who is working on my bass and did the emailing. Peace

How can I expedite getting a replacement board this bass? I need one yesterday. Thank you.

I'm not sure if I'm posting in the right place? Anyone know where I should be looking? I apologize, I really didn't expect I'd have my bass at a shop for month and I need to do all i can to get it back. I'm trying to avoid putting on non-alembic fingerbaord. I love the inlays. Thank you.

You might try telephoning Alembic.

Ditto. Plus, if a fretboard needs to be made for your Alembic (everything is custom made), you may need to adjust your expectations.

You may not realize that Alembic is a small family run company, everything they make is custom and everyone there is very busy. Mica has indicated that they normally do not sell wooden parts like a fingerboard and if you want it inlaid, too, the work needs to be scheduled and a price determined. She hasn't indicated that they will not help but you will have to make the decision as to whether you want a local repair person to replace the fingerboard now, or wait until Alembic can schedule the work you would like done. I also love the Alembic oval inlays and if it were my bass would want to wait until I could get a fingerboard that had them.
As far as calling, if someone is readily available they answer calls between about 11AM and 4 PM PST. If you get an answering machine try again. The two people who answer phone calls, Mica and Mary, both have other responsibilities at work, too, there is nobody there that only answers and returns phone calls or email queries.
Hang in there... I am sure your bass is beautiful and well worth having repaired properly.

Just a suggestion, since time seems of the
Essence Europa, any competent repair shop should be able to extract the original inlays from your old fretboard and put them in a new one. If you want to go that route, try these guys:

And to save you another click, here's their service link:

Personally, I'd just keep the powder dry for a little bit... you'll see that once you have the attention of the Head Elf, herself, it is intense and undivided. Nobody can fix your Alembic like Alembic. 8)
And welcome to the Club, by the way. :)

I've been emailing the repair shop directly and today all the details were sorted out. I explained to your repairman that the part will need to be made, and that will be 2-7 days depending on when Bob is next making fingerboards.

I really appreciate all the help. I feel blessed to own an alembic and I can't wait to get it back from the shop. Peace
