Title: guitar/stands on stage
Post by: glocke on April 05, 2018, 11:57:11 PM
Whats everyone using?

Typically I dont use one, the stages I play for the most part tend to be small, crowded and chaotic and I just can't see leaving my SCSD up there on a stand or even my jazz basses for fear they'd tip over or get bumped into, so they go back into the case between sets.

I would however like to have one to just put my instrument on for a few minutes at at time if I need to fiddle with some connection or something, so whats everyone using?

I use the Hercules GS414 stands. Very stable and have the quick release head.  I'm switching between fretted and fretless during the sets so it makes sense to have them next to me. If I was only using one bass I'd probably have my emergency bass off stage on a stand ready to grab .

My favorite is the K&M Memphis Pro.  It has a locking yolk, similar to the Hercules except the two side can work independently to accomodate asymmetrical headstocks.  Addionally, it folds up much smaller than the Hercules.  Still, the Hercules is a great stand too.

I've had great luck with Ultimate Genesis GS-100 stands. They also fold up very compact and are only like 30 bucks.

I've been using the Ultimate GS 100, it's the only hanging stand I've found with a neck cradle wide enough to work with my Rogue 6s. Plus, as mentioned, they fold up nice and small, and only $30.

Hercules are my favorite, with the Metallica tribute we use a couple of multiple stands (10+ guitars/basses which we need quick acces to) I hate those for obvious reasons...

Note on the Hercules: The 5 string Comfort taper is about as wide as it can take, 6 string and maybe Classic taper 5 string might not fit.

The Hercules will accommodate a 6 string bass just fine - depending on the nut width. I don't think mine is particularly narrow:

My favorite is the Starfish. Very, very stable. You have to work really hard to knock it over. It comes both in both regular and with a automatic locking head.

Customer service is also excellent.

The only downside is transporting it is a little awkward. I'd love to find a gig bag at the least.

Can't fault Hercules stands.  Have a few including GS414B.
My main stand, however, is a Bass Centre (Birmingham UK - no longer exists) ' A-frame' with an extending top.  Not made anymore but still holding the Alembic well.
