Title: Acoustic Hot Tuna / Jack Casady & Jorma Kaukonen
Post by: edwardofhuncote on March 31, 2018, 07:08:42 AM
Took myself down to the Jefferson Center for Performing Arts here in Roanoke last night to see the acoustic duo Hot Tuna, Jack Casady & Jorma Kaukonen. The Jeff. Center is a fantastic venue... having seen several shows there, (even got to play that stage a couple times) it always sounds fantastic. They still had a few center section seats left when I got there too.

I'll make the review short... man, those guys can really PLAY. Biased? Yeah... but I was riveted from curtain to curtain. Go see them, if you haven't already.  :)

Here's their encore, "Water Song" from an earlier performance.
I didn't take but a couple pictures last night... they do allow 'no-flash' pics at Jeff Center, but not video. Anyway, I can't stand audience distractions, so I made it quick. The last picture of Jorma's guitar is especially for Coz, who like myself, lusteth after petite Martin guitars. I gather this is his Custom M-36, though his Signature Martin is an M-30, the natural-topped one in stand-by mode. I'm guessing it's kept in open G tuning for Water Song.

Ooooo - I like that guitar!!!

Peter (who thinks the M body is the best idea Martin's had since X bracing)

Glad you got to see them Gregory - doesn't look like they are coming too close to me this time around.

Water Song... timeless classic (or at least one of my all-time favorites).
So what could make it betterer?
Add another bass (Byron House) and Barry.

Glad you got to see a great show. I've seen Hot Tuna both acoustic and electric and they have never disappointed.  And best of all, they have a tendency to play at great venues with reasonable ticket prices.
