Title: Alembic in the studio
Post by: gearhed289 on March 14, 2018, 09:51:40 AM
Did some tracking last night with my drummer for our upcoming full-length release (shooting for September). Did the first 2 songs with my '86 Distillate. What a spectacular tone! So perfect. There was one song I had planned to use one of my Rickenbackers on, but after 2 passes, I decided it just wasn't happening and switched to the Alembic. THAT did the trick! Recording 2 more tonight. Going to try the Ric again with fresh strings. We'll see what happens. Here's a picture of the rig I record with (belonging to our producer). Ampeg B-15S, Mesa Dual Rectifier/2x12 cab, and DI. And a link to a short video from the control room. https://www.facebook.com/Area44Music/videos/1780198632040481/?hc_ref=ARQrczRISOuY0m1mKvZby0dOBQZ8olm1iYI8_YXbHlIA0yQ1cKT6cI-XyE0g4kZIj8g&fref=nf (https://www.facebook.com/Area44Music/videos/1780198632040481/?hc_ref=ARQrczRISOuY0m1mKvZby0dOBQZ8olm1iYI8_YXbHlIA0yQ1cKT6cI-XyE0g4kZIj8g&fref=nf)

Nothing looks more like home than a Distillate in the studio!

That is some topnotch amplification in your first picture too.  :)

Agree with Paul, there's just something about a Distillate... they just fit.   8)

Thanks guys! I love that rig. When we did our 4 song EP, there was an instrumental where I really wanted the Chris Squire sound. At the last minute, I thought - a big part of his sound was his Marshall 1/2 stack. So I decided to try adding a guitar rig, and it worked out so well that we went for it on all 6 remaining tracks that will be going on the LP.

And I'm still thankful to club member "Hammer" for selling me the Distillate. What a great 1st Alembic!

Interesting that you had both a B15 and the Mesa Boogie guitar rig.  I presume you are tracking a DI, too.  How are you blending the signals (meaning % of each)?

Yes, DI as well, all on separate tracks. That said, we'll see what the blend ends up being when we mix. I first used that setup on this track here from our EP, recorded with a Ric 4001CS. https://nomadic44.bandcamp.com/track/nomads (https://nomadic44.bandcamp.com/track/nomads)
