Title: Greg Lake's Alembic "Pirate's" Scorpion
Post by: Thesage61 on February 07, 2018, 11:19:23 PM
Does anyone know where I can source a high res pic of Greg bass that he used on the Works albums and tours? I love the look of this bass and I have searched the internet but found only a handful mostly incomplete- I gather it was a custom bass as I know that a few variants exists with different headstocks- any help greatly appreciated

Been awhile since I visited- thats for the link to the pic- just wondering- looking at this beauty its big!!! Anyone know whether its a standard scale34" (86 cm) for perhaps an extra-long scale basses of 36" (91 cm)? Ive searched the site for its dimensions but no luck. What would these be worth in todays $$$ if you even source one????

There was also this graphite neck 8 string.

It is my dream bass.

When I'll become rich, I'll put an order to Mica  ;D

The "Pirates" bass was the graphite 8-string.  There's an earlier, wood-necked 8-string also with pistol grip cutaways, with inlays of mystical beasts.  I think that's the one in the first picture, but I'm not sure.

There was a Series guitar with the same mystical beast inlays.  Mica showed it to me once, several million years ago.  Since it was originally built its mellow filters had been scavenged, so it "just" had regular Series electronics!

Looks like the guitar, a twelve string, sold a few years Ago...

There is an EXCELLENT Photo of it on Page 110 of John Entwistle’s book Bass Culture.  He bought the bass from The Bass Centre in London.  I don’t have the means to post the photo here.  Is the Entwistle book still in print?
