Title: Medium Scale Strings?
Post by: DanFrank on January 29, 2018, 08:14:16 AM
Hi everyone!  I've been using D'Addario ProSteels on my medium scale 5-String '86 Spoiler but the B-string leader isn't sufficiently positioned to avoid the full width of the string (.130) from wrapping around the spindle and breaking as it tightens around the tight radius.  I have broken 3 new strings in the last couple months.  D'Addario sent me 3 replacements but doesn't seem to have a medium scale length in that string model.

Does anyone use a string package that has the characteristics of the ProSteels but are sized for a medium scale bass?

Thanks in advance for any advice out there!

Can't help with the medium scale low B, but one thing I've learned from doing a fair amount of restrings that suffer from the issue you're describing is to wind VERY slowly on the initial stringing--usually does the trick, even on those small Gotoh shafts.

Get in touch with Basstringsonline.com. The owner is on Talkbass and has chimed in on a bunch of threads about medium scale B strings. Or you might search there.  http://www.bassstringsonline.com/Medium-Scale-Round-Wound-Stainless-Steel_c_762.html
