Hi folks, I need some opinions. I am finalizing my custom bass specs and am stuck on the peghead. It will be a zebrawood top Balance K Heart Omega body shape. I’m currently torn between the crown and knob pegheads. Either would be beveled. Thoughts? Pics welcome!
Thanks.
Eric.

4 or 5-string?
The classic crown is my all-time favorite shape, but I would prefer the knobby headstock for string-pull symmetry on a 5-string bass. Check out Rusty's "Blue Orca"... a knobby on an Europa body.

Having been down this road too, trust me - you really can't go wrong here... I opted for a 3+2 Elan headstock on a 20th Anniversary Omega body. Mica and the crew made it such that I can't imagine it any other way now.

4 string. Every time I think
That I’ve decided on either the crown or the knobby I change my mind! Guess that means I can’t really go wrong...

How about an omega crown peg head?

My vote would be for the classic crown shape, it will look especially nice beveled.

One more question for considering... are the headstock faces going to be zebrawood as well?
I love the look of those 70's Alembics with striped zebrawood headstocks.
Can't go wrong with a Crown here. :)

Yes, zebrawood. I’m building a bass as, essentially, a “big sister” to my Darling guitar, pictured here.

Ahh - NICE! ;D
You did see the Darling bass Mica posted last week?
-
Yes, I saw it, prefer balance k for the bass.

If you're going for the "big sister" effect, the family resemblance would kind of dictate a crown peghead. Crown omega is a nice touch, and you might even ask if a heart-omega crown would be feasible.

IMO - nothing says "Alembic" like the classic crown peghead.
It's the perfect way to showcase the logo and beveling adds an additional touch of elegance.
