Title: Series I Short Scale 80-1711
Post by: rv_bass on December 04, 2017, 06:38:06 PM
Having been playing large body Alembics, I must say, these small body short scale basses are tiny (but they deliver a wallop)!

I love those stripey grained alembics they just look so tasty.  I made enquiries about one in the UK but a better priced one came round from Australia. Those shorties have a sweeter top end and a bigger bottom end on the low E i find.

Jazzyvee, I agree.  I love my large body long scale bass, but the tone on this small body short scale bass is monsterous, holy cow!  Also, that maple top small body bass you ended up with is very nice :)

Thanks Rob, I was practicing with it last night as I have a gig tonight and Saturday. I play mainly 5 strings these days but these gigs are  60's and 70's stuff and classic reggae so I can get away without a low B string. Plus it's about time it had another public airing.

I was tempted by a similar looking one to yours in London just before I got mine but, the shop was asking far too much for it and it's still up for sale now although they have dropped the price.... a little.

I know what you mean about over priced. In the last 2-years I've seen more $7,000-10,000 postings for used Alembics on Reverb and eBay than ever before...and almost all of them are still up for grabs.

Found this photo in my files, so thought I'd post it here for safe keeping.
