Looks like one of the Japanese piggy-backers put the wrong pictures up for this listing :)

Saw that this morning. What's up with the wood around the bridge/tailpiece?

That is an unusual pattern. Looks kinda' like it was cut from a grafted tree. Pretty bass... 8)

So, to be clear: is this the wrong image, or is the bass misclassifed as a non-Series I?

The picture is probably wrong, the Japanese listings are always pretty funky. Beside the fact that most of the instruments seem way overpriced the multiple listings at different price points for the same instrument seem like a big flag to avoid them all.
There is a stunning looking Jimmie Johnson Signature five-string from Japan currently on eBay. Very expensive and for some reason the estimated shipping is over two grand when a lot of the other Japanese listings offer free shipping.

There is also a Jimmy Johnson Series I on the Ikebe listing. At 830,000y, and today's exchange, it would cost $7,410. Shipping from Japan for this would be about $200, and would arrive via the post office. So not too bad a price. If you are interested, click on the product inquiry (English), and write a quick note on the form. Mr Noriaki Sato from the Shibuya store in Tokyo will contact you. He can understand simple English, and is very nice. Customs will probably tag another 5%, depending on if it is looked at as a re-export or not.

Bottom line. Never buy from Japan on eBay

Ikebe is a very nice store - they have custom ordered many interesting basses for their display over the years and have even visited here before.
