Curious is anyone has tried this combo. I've just started using my U5 to feed my IEM mix. I like it a lot, but curious if it's a)possible or b)recommended to put my SF-2 ahead of the U5. Any thoughts? Apologies if my lack of sophistication in all things electronic leads to suggest something that could destroy two expensive pieces of gear. :)
P.s. I know this forum is supposed to be about Alembic basses but I didn't see a better place to post about Alembic preamps/amps!

Hi, Cactustone. I'm a guitar player and know nothing about the U5, but you should be aware that the SF-2 includes a preamp that can be set at 0, +10dB, or +20dB. It comes from the factory set at +10dB and can be changed with an internal jumper switch. I've put an SF-2 into a guitar combo, an F2-B preamp, and a bass combo with no problem. I might start out hooking it up set at 0dB and see how it sounds.

This should be a great combination. Since the SF-2 doesn't have an XLR out, you will need some sort of DI (unless you mic the amp). Alembic bass>SF-2>Avalon>ears = happy bass player!

I don't think there would be any problems putting the SF-2 in front of the U5 - the SF-2 gives you complete control over the volume, both input & output, so adjust accordingly. Is the same signal going to be going out to front of house? I would just be wary of making extreme boosts.

Thanks, all. I send two signals to FOH: the direct line from the Avalon that also goes to my ears and I mic my fEARful 12/6/1. Excited to try this!
