Hi everybody. I've been doing some work this winter building instruments. I'm in the final stages of my first laminate bass. The body is a replacement for the very heavy 77 jazz bass that I loved and toured with before I got my first Alembic. But it weighed 13+ lbs. The final projection for this instrument is 7.8 lbs. So more than 5 pounds difference. It's a mahogany body with maple and walnut laminates. It has a flame clarion walnut top. I am using the original 77 neck. Alembic electronics mounted on a custom brass plate. Vol, Vol, filter. I am making custom knobs from the excess glue up. Badass bridge. The battery will go in the electronics cavity for now till I decide to put in another filter.
I would like to give a special shout out to Mica for her wonderful suggestions during one of our lengthy conversations. And to my buddy Alex for all his help and experience. Together we have now built 3 instruments and we are starting 2 more. Including replication of my Hyak bass in short scale, but that will be next winter. We still have to wrap our heads around the neck thru concepts and the head scarf.
We are not selling any of these, but are making them for our own joy. Here are some pictures.
