I am the proud owner of an Alembic small wooden box that was offered for sale on the website a few years back. mine is number B-29. I am wondering if anyone else has one of these and if you want to share some pictures or details on them. Just curious. If interested I will work on getting some pictures posted.
-
I do own a few of those boxes, and we'll actually have 10 of them for sale in the store soon. I'll get around posting some pictures of mine in the near future. B-29 is actually the model number.

-
What does the box do, other than (I'm sure) have exceptional craftsmanship and, uh, hold things?
Mike
-
Huh ...o-ho MIke ...they are SPECIALLY designed in a well chosen format.
I you fill the box with 100$ bills the box will be full the moment you reach the amount of money for an exact JE-Exploiter Series 3 copy WITH full Gothic notes inlays on the fingerboard.
Paul the bad one
a...hoh ...mmm ...well they just tell me you'll need TWO boxes!!!!
HA!
-
I hear the box is the perfect size for a pair of stockings, though!
This sounds like something one would special-order made from the remaining pieces of the wood used for the top of your custom bass.
-
Now lets see:
My head goes in the stocking, the stocking goes in the box, so my head will go in the box ???
Right ...I'll drill some peep-holes in the box and off I go to the next bank.
With a nice box I will definitely collect more money!!!!!
Paul the bad one

I would guess that if you rapped it with your knuckles you could get a nice percussive tone; mic'd and run through an SF-2 to round out the low end and smooth out the top, followed by a touch of reverb; then a nice Crown and an Acme.
-
I'm certainly interested. Coco Bolo...? Pleeease...!
-
I'd like to run a stereo DI out from one of these and run it through my Trace Elliot with maybe a touch of compression plus my tube overdrive. Betcha it rips.

Pictures?????

Mica is taking pictures, they'll be up probably by tomorrow.
Valentino

You guys are weird.
-
I bought one of them boxes too. It has a heart inlay on the top of it. My wife keeps her pearls in it.
-
I am very interested woodbox B-29.
What kind of wood is available ?
I want Macassar Ebony's box for the pair of my bass.
Please show me the PHOTO !
-
Are these the same boxes that are on the website now, available at Cafe Press? I bought 2 of those. One for me and one for my bassist.....he bought my Epic and needs something small to help him save money again....

Dyslexia can be fun....at times.
STONEY !!!!

Tell him he'll need a bigger box...

Ya think????

Dibs on the purple heart one! How do I order it?
-
I went to the store, but they are not there. Hmm, I still call dibs on the purpleheart one! The drama, the tension! The pretty woods! The burled and flamed walnut ones seem very nice, too. Patience . . .
-
There's nothing there for scale. How big are these things?
thanks-
-
Yeah !
There are nice box!
Purpleheart with heart is so pretty!
I want too, if poor_nigel passing it.
Burl walnut is next dibs that I want.
Please let me know how I order it.
-
The boxes are about 5.5 x 3 and just shy of 2 high. Good for picks, trinkets, piggy bank, etc. We've got one in the showroom for picks and another for screws and other little hardware bits.
I've got the Purpleheart reserved for Nigel and the Burl Walnut reserved for Eiji. Please email me to confirm your orders.
This morning we also sold the Koa and the Flame Maple/Mahogany boxes. I'll post the remaining boxes in the store tonight. If you've got your eye on one, best is to call today by 4:00 pacific time and place your order before the non-Club audience gets a peek.
There will be more with inlays in the second batch and I'm working on a way to do special orders, but that isn't ready yet.
-
Mica,
Can you please tell me the methods of payment that Alembic accepts.
Thanks,
Ellery (Lowlife)
-
Dibs on the flame maple/walnut box!!
Mike
-
We accept all major credit cards for phone orders, Ellery. We'll do COD for Club members, but UPS is charging $7.50 extra now. Ouch!
Flame Maple/Walnut is reserved for you, Mike.
-
mica- how about the redwood one?
-
Thanks Mica! I asked Valentino if he could include it in the packaging when you return my Spyder to me. That would be most efficient.

-
I love the Tulipwood - If it's still available I'll buy it.
Let me know.
Thanks
Tom
-
Coco Bolo for the next batch & I'm in...
-
That tulipwood is a beauty! It's hard to see, but it looks like the walnut on the birds eye box has some interesting figure too.
-
Jimmy - Redwood has your name on it, thanks!
Tom - the Tulipwood was still available, so I've got it reserved for you. Too bad we we a little too late to get it packed with your new Skylark. Oh well, getting two packages with nice wooden stuff is okay.
Paul - I'm hoping for some Coco Bolo in the next batch. When I see one, I'll hold it for you. Next batch will be ready early October.
Bob - there is a little bit of burl along one edge of the Walnut on the top of the Bird's-eye Maple box. The Maple is also nicely figured on that one.
What's left: Zebrawood, Flame Walnut, Bird's-eye Maple. Maybe I was too hopeful about getting these in the store tonight, we'll see how I feel after cooking dinner.
-
I'll take the bird's eye maple box, if it's still available.
TIA,
Reid
-
Reid - thanks, got that BEM reserved for you.
Make that 2 remaining boxes: Zebrawood and Flame Walnut.
-
Thanks Mica - I'll phone in the AM.
-
Mica, if you're positive about C.O.D. internationally also, I'd like to reserve the Flame Walnut box (if it's still available due to the time difference). I'll e-mail all necessary info to you immediately to the address mentioned in your profile...
Thanks,
Wilfred
-
Mica, I'd like to purchase the Zebrawood box, if it's still available. I'll call you later on today to give you the credit card data.
Thanks.

Now you have to admit -and NO OFFENCE INTENDED, pure professionally spoken and I KNOW what I am talking about- that this club is one of the most outstanding marketing and sales tools ever imagined. The pictures were posted at September 19, 2004 - 8:55 pm. It is September 21 now and everything is sold! Can you imagine. I BET there are a new batch of boxes coming and they will dissappear as quick even without introducing this to the non-club market (and I DO believe that the outstanding craftmanship of Alembic would made them sell also out-there ...Alembic is better in small boxes than in big closets for guitar grin-grin-grin).
I already HAD a short/quick talk with Mica over the phone -aaaaah those phone moments with Mica, those were the days- about this Alembic internet-club-sales-marketing strategy and I must say it IS quite AMAZING. I used it in the last season of marketing classes I could give in high-school. Believe me ...this club was INTENSIVELY studied by Belgian marketing students.
Paul the bad one
Yes ...I know what you would ask ...alas there was no Alembic buyer in those bunch leave alone a bass-player!
-
Mica..if there's is more than one Coco Bolo in the next run I'd like one..
Thx
Gary
-
Wow...these went fast. I would like a coco bolo also if some area available.
-
Next batch should include a flame maple/walnut box with purpleheart laminates and....spider web inlays!!
What do you say, Ollie? Alan? Other Spydermen?
Mike
-
Ans a little inlayed spider where the heart is on the one from this set?
-
Mica, thanks SO much for bringing these back for us. I regretted missing out the first time. I've missed out THIS time too (dang email backlog) but I will get onboard next time I see one which appeals to my gift giving spirit. ;-)
Maybe Bubinga?
EffClef
-
Mica
I too would like a coco bolo one.... with an inlay when it becomes available!!!!!!!
-
OK, Alembic makes amazing stringed instruments, now Alembic makes amazing wooden boxes, if we apply the transitive function, Alembic should make amazing wooden boxes that are stringed instruments - maybe like this:
http://www.smithsonianstore.com/product_detail.asp?style=7919# (http://www.smithsonianstore.com/product_detail.asp?style=7919#)
Whatta ya think?
-
I'm holding out for the exotic wood string winders.
-
That harp is pretty cool
-
Maybe I should get a finders fee for bringing the boxes up again. I didn't realize how lucky I was to get one until I saw how quickly this batch went. Maybe I will have a chance to get in on the next batch. How about custom orders? Maybe with custom inlays and woods? Just a thought. Congrats to all who scored one this time around!
-
Hoe about a box with on the cover an Alembic logo inlay with abalone inthe cloud and circle. Neat huh????
Paul the bad one
***sigh*** why am I torturing myself like this.
-
Yo Paul. Hmmm, sounds nice, but I don't know if I want a little neat box with an $800 upgrade?! But if so, why not go for the rays, too? Might as well add in ebony lams, and laser LEDs! Then I suppose the addition of a neck and some pickups and electronics, and it would almost be set. Hey, let's not forget this is a neat little box, and not a bass. What were we talking about, again??? Seriously, I don't think they will put a logo on anything except a bass, will they?
-
well....err he said lowering his voice to a whisper, ...maybe a guitar as well
:-)
-
I sit corrected . . . Six-stringers of the higher persuasion, please accept my apologies for your exclusion. I will stop here, before I make a more serious mistake.
-
Hey Thomas, No harm no foul!
I find myself thinking that too...and then I see Jonathan's guitar, that Zebrawood Skylark, etc. Almost makes me wanna take up guitar again!!
(At least you had sense enough to be comfortable while being corrected!)
:-)
Ken (TEO)
-
We can always pretend that Alembic indeed only makes basses. Regular ones (please excuse the use of the term) and ultra-high picolo six-string basses that just happen to use the same strings and tuning as guitars do - what a coincidence!
Hey, my little box arrived. I opened it and looked at it for about 20 seconds. It was taken from my hands and I doubt I will see it again - in the context of being mine, anyway. If you did not buy this for someone other than yourself, might be best to sneak off to open yours when it gets there. From what I saw of my ex-box, it looked really nice.
Here is a little news flash for those who bought Alembic/Moody straps. Moody Straps is now Italia Leather Straps. www.moodystraps.com (http://www.moodystraps.com) will still get you there, for a while. Just FYI.

Wow, that was quick, my Flame Walnut box arrived today! It's a very nice piece and it stands proudly on top of my amp. I'll keep some plectra in it and my stash of Grolsch straplocks will live there very comfortably. Lovely thing, great craftsmanship, as could be expected from Alembic off course...
Mica, many thanks!
Wilfred

Hi Mica,
I got Burl Walnut box today.
It's so nice !
I found figured Mahogany at the bottom. Wow !
Thanks !
-
I'd be interested in a Burl Walnut no inlay if one becomes available.
-
... and http://www.moodystraps.com (http://www.moodystraps.com) is no longer on-line ...
... now you see it and now you don't - well, you do again now ...

I still think you guys are weird.
Um...if an inlaid flamed koa box becomes available by Christmastime, I've got dibs.
There, I said it. Happy???

How about a Showcase thread especially for the wooden boxes?
;-)
Wilfred

-
Doggoneit, I've been assimilated!
-
If there was a Showcase thread would Factory to Customer be far behind?
-
I suppose we would have to introduce a ban on going off-topic on it. (Ah, put a lid on it.)
-
The Sheriff has been taken by the Borg, and you guyz are making jokes? Well, he knew the job was dangerous when he took it. Carry on.
Anyone know who K or KW is (My best guess)? The boxes all seem to be signed by this person. Just curious. Hey, I got a vintage one! From 03. Makes me think these are not made often.
Going off topic? Love to! Why isn't Valentino listed on the Alembic site in the Staff section? I noticed he was not there when I went looking for the 'K?' person. I think there is a pic or two of Valentino in the FTC section.
Note for anyone thinking of grabbing an inlaid box in the next batch coming out soon. My ex-box's inlay is ebony with a pink ivorywood heart and an abalone tear coming out of it. Pretty spiffy and well done.
-
KW is Kris Worden; he's the box maker and he also put together a few thousand Alembic instruments.
I'm not in the staff section because we haven't got around to updating it yet. With all the things we have to do, it's kinda of a low priority; we'll do it one of these days.
Valentino
-
We received a bunch of new boxes from Kris today; Mica will have pictures soon.
Also, we wanted to let you all know that Moody Straps has now split into 2 separate companies.
We are supporting the founder, Alison who now operates as Moody Leather, and will be buying straps exclusively from her. Her new website is www.moodyleather.com (http://www.moodyleather.com) .
