Title: Something fun in pickup land
Post by: mica on January 10, 2017, 09:17:05 AM
Tony decided to have some fun in the wood shop. We'll be offering these in our online store at some point, but I can't wait to share the first tray. These are 5-string sets. AXY56 in Buckeye Burl and Coco Bolo. The MXY56 is in Bird's-eye Maple.

Usually it's $300 extra per pickup for continuous wood toppers. These are $100 extra, sold only in sets. The price will be $700 in the store, but I'm going to offer on the Alembic Club first at $625 per set. Call dibs if you want 'em!

Can you imagine a black Spoiler with the Coco Bolo pickups? Would also look cool as aftermarket installations as well.

BTW, these are not yet rubbed out - remember I said I couldn't wait?

Very Cool, Mica. I'll be keeping an eye out for a pair of the JZ shaped ones.  :o

Mmm, very nice; if only we could trade-in our existing black AXY56's for a bit of credit......btw, anyone need a black set cheap, so I can fund the Buckeye Burl set?  ;)

(Unfortunately the Tax man approaches soon in the US)  :(

I get lots of compliments on the Coco-Bolo topped PUs the elves in Santa Rosa put on Woody, my Custom Further.  I love the look.

Wow.  I can't believe I never thought of this!  Every other time I've seen veneer-topped pickups it was to match the top laminate...and to be honest, I felt that look was usually a bit of overkill in the "coffee table" department. But it never occurred to me to get pickup veneers that contrasted with the top wood!  This opens up a whole new can of gorgeous!
